Battery cover
I'd suggest cardboard and duct tape. The same happened to me. You can also try gluing small pieces of Velcro to fasten closed that way. To the best of my knowledge, that clip can't be replaced.

This is a pretty crude method for fixing it, but you can apply duct tape to the camera in whatever fashion necessary to hold the battery cover to the camera. You must have the contacts on the cover firmly pressed against the batteries or you may get errors such as low battery (if you just inserted a new pair)
My C-5050 zoom does not
First make sure it is not a strange setting the one that mess around with your needs....So..., get into menu ..and first put it in normal shooting mode.,.if it has a manual switch button for modes..,and after that ..from the menu ..look for reset all ...or for factory settings .....is different form one camera to another ..but usually makes the same thing ...gets all settings to the original ...
If after that the camera makes the same thing ...be sure it is not a lens problem ..caused by a physical shock ..or another thing like that ..and only as a last resort ..open it and change the battery ..cause that battery is the equivalent of cmos (bios ) battery on computer s...and holds all settings and stuff ..and indeed if it is gone ..can affect the functionality ..but ..if can be checked without opening ...For example ..set the date and time ..or another setting ...and if you remove your batteries..and put them back ..and the setting are getting from 0 again ...and are not held in memory ...it means that battery from the board is gone ..

hello frank..... Try this. Remove those new batteries and use the eraser end of a common pencil to scrub the battery contacts inside the battery compartment and in the lid of the battery compartment. Then reinsert the new batteries paying close attention to the diagram showing the +'s and the -'s.
That may solve the problem. If it does not, then you will have to take the camera into a camera shop for an internal cleaning.
