Olympus Camedia C-740 Ultra Zoom Digital Camera - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Cannot get the card to work properly
The card should not fall out as they are held in with a spring lock they need a push down to pop up to pull out- so I wonder if you have correctly installed the card ?
Have you tried reformat?
or another card?
Olympus C-740 ultra zoom
You need a USB 2.0 cable, and hook it to your PC. The Operating System will auto detect it as a removable drive. Just pull off the jpg files from that removable drive. It will probably show up as e:\
Camera looses date & time setting
There is a cmos battery (or a memory battery) on the main circuit that like any battery wears out eventually. If you are familiar with repairing electronic circuits you can get the part from Olympus. There is no part number just "memory battery for C-740" will suffice.
Your other two choices are to take the camera to a shop where they can do the kob for you. Don't let them sell you a complete new board, you don't need one. Not for this problem anyway. Or you can ignore the problem and reset the camera (or not)each time you change batteries.
Lost images
Take out the memory card from the camera and try it in another camera used this type of memory card and it will let you know if the problem is with your camera or your memory card.
In case you will found out that the problem is with the memory card - you need for a data recovery software to recover your pictures.
There are a lot of recovery software's at the market and some of them are even for free.
Look for it in the internet, under "memory card recovering pictures"
Good luck
Zoom Control
Looks like you 'flicked' it to death
Seriously this is in need of treatment - costly treatment

Card cover.
The cheap, instant way is to tape it down - pvc electrical tape is probably the best for this although it will get sticky after a while.
La fa?on bon march? et imm?diate est d'utilisez du Scotch / bande ?lectrique PVC - le deuxieme est probablement le meilleur pour ceci bien qu'il obtiendra collant un peu plus tard.
if you want to replace the cover then contact Olympus Europe on this link;

another way to go would be to find a local dealer or two and ask them if they have any C-740 that has a good card cover but is otherwise unrepairable - you might get lucky.
Une autre possibilite est de trouver des n?gociants local et les demandez s'ils ont un C-740 qu'a une bonne couverture de carte mais qu'est autrement irr?parable - vous pourrait avoir de la bonne chance.
Hope this helps - please ask again if not :)
J'esp?re que ceci vous aide - demandez moi encore si non (mes excuses si vous n'?tes pas wallon)

Since the eyepiece on the C-740 is an small LCD monitor, the driver is probably OK. The large LCD may have failed or the connector has come loose. The procedure for removing the back cover is rather complex if you havn't done it before. I woud recommend taking it to an Olympus authorized shop.
Does not turn on any more
probably the mainboard got damaged, u will need to sent it to a service, to get replaced the mainboard.
Card formatting problem
Hi,
I think there are two possibilities, one may be your camera is defective or may be your memory card has a problem. so try onething
format your card in your pc and then check it out with your camera if problem still remain it is possible that the camera has a problem.
If so, go to olympus shop.
good luck....

Ultrazoom pixellation problems
No, it isn't to do with white balance. Instead it is due to a combination of noise swamping (or at least modifying significantly) the exposure measured by the pixel, and the interpolation algorithm in the sensor processing chips that "guesses" the colour of a pixel based on the readings from nearby pixels. These algorithms are better at rendering certain kinds of image elements than others. Large areas of darkish colour often fool the algorithms into attempting to produce detail that doesn't exist.
Auto Focus Problem
Way to check settings is to take the batteries out for a while, it should revert to factory default settings. I tell a lot of People to try this, it works an amazing number of times. Auto focus looks for vertical lines, what are You shooting at? Try rotating the camera 90 degrees, if it locks better,Bingo. Subjects without much contrast are hard to lock focus on
Controls problem -factory reset?
As I expected download was useless -- same LIMITED info as the written manual. Camera has gone to-day to factory service in canada Nortown Photo Service . we'll report what they find.
Resoultion Start Up
You must go into the menu and choose which record mode you want. Then it will stay on what you have chosen. There is a list of all the different record modes on the manual on the cd. At least there is on mine. Mine is an Olympus c-770.
Focus Problem
Low light focus lock can be a problem with this camera. But in normal or bright light there should be no problem with auto focus lock.
If this is a new problem, you should check to see if a setting has been changed.
With so many options, it is easy to accidently set something that causes unusual results (been there, done that).
First ... Go to the Setup Menu and see that the "All Reset" option is selected. This will cause everything to be reset to factory default each time you power-on the camera.
Turn the camera off and then turn the camera on. Then take some test photos to see if your auto-focus-lock is improved.
If that works, there is no need to check the items below.
If that does not work, here are some control changes to try. Remember if you turn off the camera everything gets reset.
That camera uses contrast detection for auto focus and it is normally set to "Multi-Area Auto Focus". Try changing it to "Spot Auto Focus" and do some tests, including with the camera set to one of the programs or manual mode.
There is another setting called "Autofocus Area", you should investigate. Check your manual to determine what you can do with this control.
There is another control called something like "continuous auto focus". Check the manual for further information.
If none of the above help, it is time to see about some camera repairs.
Miss all the action shots with this camera
The longest part of the shutter delay is caused by the autofocus mechanism.
Most cameras will let you press the button half-way down and wait until the autofocus is locked. Then wait for the action to occur. When you press the button the remaining distance, there will be a shutter delay of about 0.2 seconds before the picture is taken.
Using that technique will let you capture action shots.
There is no way to improve shutter delay on any particular camera.
The newer digital cameras are showing improvement in this area. Some are achieving autofocus lock in 0.4 seconds and shutter delay of an additional 0.1 seconds.
