the video and control heads are probably dirty. a video cleaning tape might work, otherwise you will need to get a proffessional to clean if for you.

Help

you'll need to bring up the menu, under "channels" or "set-up" you will find something called autotune (or manual channel set-up). it will automatically set the channels you pick up.

Service Menu Code

Its unlikely that the purple splotches can be cured from the service menu.

Assuming your TV is the Magnavox 20MC4304 combi, then the tv does not have a service code. There is an alternative though.

Details can be found in the service manual:

Clicking sound from VCR area

there is a infra red LED inside the unit that fails. this LED sends infra red signals to 3 other sensors for load and stop and counter. when this LED fails the mechanism thinks you are loading a tape. have a tech replace this LED.

Vcr eating tapes

When a VCR eats a tape, it can be cause by a couple things.

1. There is a rubber wheel called a "pincher wheel" that compresses the tape against the "capstan". The capstan is a shiny metal spindle connected to a motor. The pincher wheel can become worn and/or dirty (slick) from the oxide coating off of the tape. You can try cleaning the pincher wheel and capstan with alcohol or try using a re-grip solution on the pincher wheel. Last thing to do is replace the pincher wheel. Look to see that the pincher wheel is doing its job by pulling the tape through.

2. There is a small tire wheel called an idler tire. This tire pivots between the sending and pickup reels of the player. Its also used during fast forward & rewind as well as play. If the tire is worn, the tape won't be wound up as fast on the take-up reel as the sending reel during play. This means more tape is coming out of the cassette than can be wound up on the takeup reel. You can try using a re-grip solution on the idler tire or replace it.

Let me know if you need more information as to where to purchase these parts.

Good luck!

Keeps blowing fuses

When a fuse keeps blowing, that is an indication that some component has failed and the circuit is drawing too much current. Most likely it is a problem in the power supply section or high voltage / flyback section.

Sorry to say, you will need to take it to be serviced.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good luck!

VHS Recording Tape

not much of a help but sounds like your record head is bad on the vhs heads,

use cleaning tape try that, if that fixes great, if it helps but not fully there, you might have to clean them by hand with very soft paper town and rubbing alcohol rub side to side very easy , if none of the above work you have a bad record head or record board, not worth repair vs cost
good luck

Magnavox mwc20t6

DO THIS ONLY IF YOU KNOW YOUR WAY AROUND A TV.......... there are a lot of possabilty, but i would start at the crt board, there is 3 transtor there, q2503, q2502 q2501 check the voltage on them, they should all be the same give or take a volt or two, if you find one that is off voltage compaired to the other two, then....... pull the crt boad off the crt and turn on set, check the voltages again see if they check the same.
if the one that read diffrent still reads diffrent transtor is bad, if they all read the same with the crt board off the crt then the crt is bad.

My tv don't work

open the small hatch next to where the power cord enters the back of your t.v. using a phillips screwd you driver. There is a small fuse there that may be blown//careful not to touch anything and remember that even if the unit is unplugged their are circuits inside that will still store a high voltage charge.

Philips LCD 42PFL3603D/F7 won't stay on until I've held the power button in a few times. The display comes on, then I hear a click and it shuts off. After a few cycles of this it stays on

Remove the cover on the back of the tv. Look for swollen or leaking capacitors. They kinda look like batteries. If they are bulging or leaking then that is your problem. You will have to de-solder the old ones off. Then solder the new capacitors onto the circuit board. Capacitors will cost about 20 dollars and installing them isn't that hard to do. It will fix your tv 99% of the time. So it is worth a try!
