We unplugged the tv for 2 minutes. Plugged it back in, turned it on- had to press the on button twice. I am now watching the tv.

Tv is 3D and color is messed up its a Philips

What you likely have here is a convergence problem and I THINK you will find this model may have actually been made by Hitachi(they made them one year around 2001) and if so it is a better set than the Philips sets.

It depends on if you can do it yourself---If you look inside from the back to the right and see two black IC chips mounted on a large metal sink with fins and they have the STK392-110 number on the front of them----THE SET WAS MADE BY HITACHI.

iF It is a Hitachi set the parts cost will be under 25 dollars total.

Confirm which chips are in YOUR set (they are black,2 1/2 wide and 1 1/2 tall) and I will tell you what is needed.

I do not know how

Yes,just don't touch or mess around with the flyback right away, when u just unplug the tv or the highvoltage of the flyback will give u a very big and heavy shock and can hurt u badly.Wait like about an hour later. Now take the lead wire from ur voltemeter used it as a tool to grounded it some where in the tv metal frame and used the other side of the lead touches around the flyback for discharges.Than just do what u want to do to the flyback now.

Picture too red and too bright

You have one of two problems. Sometimes both.

Problem #1) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Problem #2)

Your TV may have a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Sounds like you need to clean the lenses and reflective area inside your set. It is easy and all you need is a screwdriver, windex and a paper towel. UNPLUG YOUR TV.   Take off your screen and screen protector and safely set them aside.
Clean only the lenses ( glass part) and the reflective mirror type area on the top of the inside of your set.  It will look like new. You need to do this at least once a year.
