Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence


These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. u have 2 problems one is the convergence ic and also u need a oil chage on picture tube blue a green , maybe total repair $400 , u need to contac a tv shop for thie job

This set needs a fluid change. Between the face of the picture tubes and projection lens there is a layer of coolant fluid. The fluid has turned a milky brown color and is degrading the picture. The tubes have to be removed in order to do this properly. I would suggest you contact a repair shop and have them check it out for you as this can be very complicated. Some tv's have adjustments for this. You should see it in the menu or a manual knob on the tv itself. If you do not see either kind, then the blue IC or color wheel is bad.

FIRST: I know this set well.

This model and others made the same year have lots of problems--sound goes and comes---remote problems--you name it.

What you have here is this set has a small double sided plug in board--it is about 4X6 inches and plugs into a socket on the far left board as you look from the back---called the Small Signal Module.

Everything you can think of is routed through this little board---double sided means it has lots of little parts on both sides of the board.

Everyone of these sets I have seen (I worked on them when they were brand new) that had a sound problem--the small signal module caused the trouble.

The board is no longer available--only way to get one is contact PTS ELECTRONICS--a national company that repairs/rebuilds all sorts of boards---you can find them on the internet or I can get the number of the company in LA that deals with them--Company is called ANDREWS ELECTRONICS--for this model it says for this board "CALL FOR QUOTE" FOR A small board it was rather expensive--about 150 exchange when it was available from Philips.

95% chance it is your problem--with these sets any kind of odd or wacky problem was usually this board going bad.

You will need to replace the convergence ICs and possibly the 6.8 ohm resistors. The Phillips DPTV305-DPTV345 convergence repair kit also works for your model. You can get the kit which also contains the CD with instructions from www.tvrepairworld.com

The digital convergance is going.In Canada it's a $450 repair which is not worth it

there is tube problem. Please make brightness 30% & contrast - 60%.

check to see if your collor wheel is rotating and the buld didnt blow.

sounds like your two convergence ICs are shorted out, plus you probably need two 6.8ohm resistors ICs are part # STK392-120

Do you hear a chirping sounds from the TV?

I have a philips magnavox and had two problems that I recently fixed using kits from www.TvRepairKits.com. I can't say enough about their kits and help. Without them I would have never been able to fix my TV set myself.

The first problem I had was the TV was looking 3D. After doing some homework I found out that this is a convergence problem. I bought a kit, followed the instructions, and to my amazement fixed it myself.

After building my confidence with the 1st repair I decided to get their CRT fluid kit. This kit fixes the dull video,red video, or bright/halo looking video. If you have a magmavox set that is more than 5 years old your tv has this problem already. It happens on every set. As before I bought the kit, followed the instructions, and now my video looks factory new. Once again I wanted to say thanks to the team at Tv Repair Kits for putting together kits that the average joe can use.

Have you tried more than 1 source? If this only happens with 1 source- if you're using component cables (green, blue, red) then make sure there is nothing wrong with it. Another thing that can cause this, is a component (RGB) device being plugged into a composite a/v input (yellow white and red).
If this fails, or if the problem is with all sources, the TV is the problem and probably won't be easy to diagnose or repair yourself.. I'd call the manufacturer if this is the case.
