Hdmi jacks are broken

Then the "Cable Guy" is Legally and morally responsible for repair... HE/They (The cable company) is totally responsible, contact his boss, & indicate what has happened and what you want done... IE: Fix it. If no response SUE them ..lol, no seriously take Them/Him to small claims.. You shouldn't have to bear ANY costs at all. GL
But in any event they will have to be reattached to the board.

I have this item and the batteries are brand new

You can test to see if your remote is actually putiing out signal, just point the remote at the digital camera, you should see flashing light on your camera screen when you push any buttons on the remote, if you do see the light, then the problem will be in the remote receiver in the TV itself.

My Lcd won't come on

If this is an old unit or beyond the warranty, check if leaving the unit unplugged overnight would help. If it does not, inspect the internal of the tv (recommended for those out of warranty). What to look for are, burnt parts, leaking or swollen capacitors and loose solders. While unplugged inspect the internals starting with the power supply circuit ( first circuit right after the power chord) which is the most common to go bad. If there is none work your way to the main board and other components. If there are no physical signs of damages, use a tester to check where the voltage cuts of.

I need to replace the fuse

Let verify first if you have ANY indicator lights, if you do, the 5v standby circuit is working which means the fuse is good but you can have blown fuse in the sub power supply section. So check for some voltage first.

I have a sharp aquos and an older mac mini.

There's nothing you can do, not at a reasonable price anyway.

The early years of HDMI were a complete mess in regards to compatibility.

My advice is just don't think about it.

Sharp Aquos LC-37 is 20 months old and would not power on

it is 99% certain that what needs to be replaced is the power board.

That's the #1 problem across the board with TVs that work for some time and then start behaving like you describe.

If you know what a scredriver is I'd suggest you do it yourself.

You can seek for a new board on eBay or through Google. I'd search for "LC-37GD6U power board".

If you don't find one you'd start searching for other similar TVs and compare the pictures of the board with what you pull out of yours.

Of course you can have a technician do all that for you for a $150 more.
