The manual mentions a couple of things that could account for excess bass, one being the Extra Bass button (X-Bass indicated on front); the other being the ROCK setting, which boosts bass.

Placement of the speakers relative to the room surfaces and the listening position can affect their perceived bass response. Experiment. Corners and close wall reinforce the bass, moving the speakers out from them would lessen it.

There is no such thing as a fixed cost of repair for a non-specific problem. You need to ask a real live technician to look at it for that.

I don't know what the code is but have you pushed the reset button. If you do push it you will have to reprogram the unit. Otherwise it will have to go in for service

Hi try this.....

Put the system in standby (ie off but plugged in) then whilst pressing down the record button and the X-BASS/DEMO button, press the PRESET DOWN (i.e.left hand one) button until "CLEAR ALL" appears, then power on your system.

This gave me some functionality back i.e. i can play normal wave CD's but not mp3 ones....

Try this CD realignment process built into the Sharp XL HP505: Have unit off.
Hol down the square (stop) button and the X-BASS button while pressing the ON button. This starts the CD TEST. press play, the memory, then memory, memory, memory, adjustment lights will come on the screen. FOF, TOF, TBAL, TGAN, FGAN, RFLS. press cd1 - track 4, press cd2 - track 9, press cd3 - track 15. Press square (Stop).

If all the cd trays are full, then will light up . This worked for me.

I am uncertain how to present this to you. Press the ALARM ON/OFF button to turn off the alarm. If you want to turn on the alarm again, press the ALARM ON/OFF button once more. The SPC900 has 2 alarms. On the back of the unit there is a buttion labeled "Alarm On/Off". Press the that button to cycle through the alarm on/off possibilties. On the screen you will see what alarm(s) is (are) turned on. There are4 possible settings: off (no alarms displayed), alarm 1 only, alarm 2 only or both alarms. The indicators are just above the seconds display and to the right of the big hour/minute display.

Look over your player and see if a program is set. Sometimes you can set a program on the CD player to play the first song on cds. Turn program play off. It’s sometimes called delete bank where all song are skipped except first track. Or you can have the repeat button on. Turn that off. There also could be a malfunction with the player. If your still having problems reset the system.

Sounds like the laser is stuck and cannot move because the slide motor has failed.

The basic binary errors are usually something small. 0000 is usually a cleaning error. I would try to clean the lens with the recommended cleaner and then try again. If problem persists the lens may be saying its dirty due to a scratch on it. These are hard to diagnose because it's a process to remove. I would clean it then replace the lens if needed.

Possible laser failure. Could be dust on the lens ... CD cleaners do more harm than good and are sold because people want them.
