Trying to download Quickbooks upgrade
Hi swing502
LiteOn
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive This device would appear to have bben manufactured by HP and then subsequently branded LiteOn.
You don't
say which Operating System you use, so my answer will be presented in general,
Windows terms. If yours is a non-Windows Operating System and my answer seems
to be of some relevance to you, please consider applying the logic and
principles involved here to your own Operating System and, if in doubt, please
feel free to add a Comment or Clarification to this Question. Please include
information about the type, model number of your computer, how many Optical Drives (CD or DVD Drives) and the nature of its
Operating System. Doing so helps us makes faster, more accurate and more
assured Remote Diagnostics leading to better quality and more useful Advice,
Answers, Guidelines, How-Tos and Solutions. The Device Manager question (?) or exclamation (!) mark beside the drive is an indication of hardware or driver fault. The error code (41) would appear to indicate some kind of connection fault.
As this is
would seem to be an older Optical Drive, I suggest you right click on this
drive in device manager and then shut down the computer. Now disconnect all
cables from the computer, open the case and look inside to check for connection
or hardware faults with the drive itself. Use this opportunity, if you have not done so previously or for a while, to very carefully clean any accumulated dust, dirt
and grime from the inside of the computer case, using a vacuum cleaner with a
thin, slot-type nozzle attachment. Test the cable connection and, if necessary
test a different cable. Then with side open, reconnect the cables and power up
the computer. The Hardware Wizard should find and invite you to reinstall the
Drive and reinstall its drivers from the Operating System's built-n driver
database.
Almost every
Operating System, especially current ones, does not require any additional
drivers for optical drives like this DVD-ROM Drive. The drivers to run almost
every Optical Drive are already built-into the Operating System
The only
kinds of software you can generally download for Optical Drives are Firmware
Updates, which improve and enhance performance specifications, rather than
repair faults or make non-functioning drives function. Firmware updates (sp26547.exe) for this drive (for Windows XP Operating Systems only) can be downladed from here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=uk&lc=en&dlc=en&softwareitem=pv-36840-1
If it is not an HP Manufactured Drive, check the label carefully for the Manufacturer's name. It may have been manufactured by Sony, Hitachi, and Samsung
etc. Go to that company's Support & Downloads website and check for
Firmware Updates for the Drive I am almost
certain that no matter where you look, you will not find any additional drivers
for this device.
If it is an
IDE (ATA or PATA) Drive and the device continues to malfunction, even with a
different cable, then it might be a Jumper Settings problem. Look at the back
of the drive to see the jumper pins and jumpers. Look on the label to see a
diagram of the various pin settings, and select the correct Master/Slave/Cable
Select Jumper Settings, based on how many Optical Drives are installed and
their connection order on the Ribbon Cable that links them to the Motherboard
in your computer.
If Jumper
Settings are not the cause of the fault, try connecting the Drive with a
different IDE cable, and clean the Laser Lens with a DVD Lens Cleaner CD
(although this will not be cause of the fault in Device Manager).
If the Drive
works but it is slow, it may be a problem with the computer. Some operating
systems will automatically clock an optical Drive down to a low basic speed
after it has demonstrated a certain number of read/write errors.
Also try
checking and changing the (SATA/) IDE Settings in BIOS and select and save the appropriate
settings.
If none of
the above actions clear the problem, then the Drive might be faulty and might
need to be replaced. If the faulty Drive is an IDE (ATA or PATA) drive and your
motherboard has SATA capability and free SATA ports, you are advised to buy and
install a SATA Drive in replacement.
I hope this helps.

Lite-On Combo CD/DVD in Windows
If it will read but not write a disk then the burner is defective, this is the classic failure and the most common one, they are vvery cheap to buy on ebay and retail as well, so just replace it, they are considered a throw away when they fail because repair cost more than replace..

Seen by windows as cd rom drive only
Check your device manager and look for flags or exculmation marks under the drive.
If none found, go to lite-on and download most recent drivers for the drive.

Burning printable cds
I believe it means one of two things:
1: After burning a writable disc, it is not recommended to leave it in writable mode. You should finalize it so it can play on other players.
2: It said that it doesn't recommend burning RE-writable CDs. They tend to be much less reliable than writable ones.
