When I plug in the ac cord, the screen goes to Creative screen,
First thing, make sure your battery is charged. When you power on your player, put it close to your ear.If you can hear the hard drive (a faint clicking noise) then your hard drive may be stuck. When you power on player, tap coner of player on mouse pad while player is booting up.If it doesn't work, try again, tapping a little harder. This is a common problem with these players.Good Luck
Hard disk error on a Creative Zen Extra (60GB)
To fix this bug you may have to format your Hard disc, because something has corrupted and stopping the hard drive from reading.
Plug it in your computer and format from the software provided if that won't allow you to format go to "My Computer" find it on there usually named "Removable" then right click on that then click "Format" then once format has complete unplug see if it works then.
Creative Nomad Jukebox zen xtra says Firmware problem
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
It would appear that the fix requires a Windows machine. Solution then would be two fold:
- download the firmware update/fix even meant for Windows;
- install and run Windows inside your Mac.
The last could be achieved by:
Of course the easiest is to use a Windows based computer of a friend.
Your
Creative Zen Nomad Xtra mp3 player uses a memory system similar to a
flash/thumb drive much like the hard disk of any computer. Just as a
computer on certain instances freezes/hangs, the same would happen to
your MP3. Like again the computer, the OS would need to be
re-installed. In your MP3 the OS is the firmware which has to be
reloaded/updated.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
Blank screen
I had the same problem with a blanked screen after a drop. I was able to get it back by disassembling the unit and GENTLY pushing down at the top of the LCD. Apparently it stopped making a good connection when I dropped it.. whew! I've seen a number of comments about the same issue; hopefully this will help.
I modded my unit as well with a larger hard drive, so I didn't want to send it in to Creative for repair...
Need a software download or disk
I was given this nomad jukebox zenxtra . Does this auto device come with a software disk? I do not have one for this product. How do I get the software and get it downloaded on my computer.
Zen Xtra Error Message When Creating Playlist
The only solution I know of is to reformat the hard drive. It's pretty time-intensive, but it does work. I use Notmad to back up the playlists. Once restored, they all work, even the ones that had initially failed.
I've never had the problem on my 60GB Zen Xtra (non-upgraded hard drive), only with my 120GB, so my naive guess is that the problem may be caused by the machine somehow not handling the extra hard drive space properly.
Also, both times it's happened, I've seen a warning sign: I usually have a lot of stuff loaded into "selected music", and when I add another album or two it partially clears the selections. And it does so in a weird way: only a few selections remain visible, yet it keeps playing at least some of the now-invisible selections.
I'm starting to think it's time to switch players, and maybe get something I can put the Rockbox OS on.
''playback error'' message
There are MP3 files with problems, and when they are buried in the MP3, it causes the player to either skip, go to the end, or give an error.
Search for MP3VAL (it's on sourceforge, a free program) and it fixes broken MP3 files. It can do a whole directory very fast. It fixes file length problems in the headers, problems with the streams, and others. If the original MP3 file is badly mangled, you might end up with a "fixed" file that is missing some portions, but that's not created by MP3VAL (MP3 Validate).

problems is reformat hard drive.
5. Reformat is very fast
6. Turn off and reboot.
7. Problem solved
Zen extra lost firmware.
was i supposed to hang around for more than 30 minutes. i solved the issue elsewhere. it seemed that the person i was working with ddn't have enough horsepower to understand the issue. his suggestions were rather generic and things that i had already tried. the solution was rather specific and provided by an end user.

You probably have Winders Media Player 11. If you can find another computer that has WMP 10, you can use that computer to do the firmware upgrade, then go back to the original computer. Thingsa should work fine.
Otherwise, you need to unistall WMP 11 and WMP11 runtime.
Another case of Billy messing us up.
And don't even get me started about vista....
