HP 920 Plain Paper Fax Questions & Answers
FAX, MODEL 920 NOT RECEIVING
Try calling your fax machine from a cell phone. If the fax doesen't answer, or if the line is busy, the phone line may be bad. Also check that the phone line to the fax is plugged into the receptical marked LINE, not PHONE. The PHONE receptical is to connect a telephone to the fax machine. If it still does not answer, try going into the fax menu and go to RECEIVE settngs. Try changing each setting, then call the fax with the cell to see if it answers. Write down each setting before you change it, so you can set it back if changing it does not solve the problem.
There are a few causes for the errors you are getting...The
remote machine has failed to respond to a fax command from the local
machine because the connection was interrupted. These errors can occur
if the phone lines in the area are old or if noise is present (static on
the phone line). Other reasons could be power outages and other
power-related problems.ORThe call waiting service can cause this
error. The click, heard for an incoming call, is actually a momentary
disconnect of the line.ORThe remote user has pressed the Stop key while the reception was in progress.ORUnder rare conditions, incompatibility between the two machines can cause the remote machine to simply abandon the call. And here's a few things to try...*Reattempt
the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions
have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to
improve.*Disable the ECM. Errors might still occur, and might result
in a degraded image quality on the received page. However, the ability
to transmit the entire document will be improved.*Try sending at a lower transmission speed.

Fax sends certain pages in duplicate
If it only happens with that one vendor, the problem is almost certainly either on their end or somewhere in the interaction between the two fax machines.
The most likely answer is that their fax machine has a problem receiving some pages (either because the line is noisy or for another reason) so it has to reprint them. You could tell your vendor to try turning off error correction on their fax machine and see if that makes a difference.
Hope that helps.
