The fax machine should have two places on the back where you can plug in a phone cord. One of these is the input: where the cord from the wall goes, and should have either "in" or a picture of a wall phone outlet next to it. The other is used as a line through the fax machine and should have a picture of a phone or "out" next to it. Ideally, you would plug the fax machine directly into the wall and then your phone/answering machine into the "out" plug on your fax machine.

When in auto mode, the fax machine will listen in on the line when the phone rings and if it detects a fax signal (all the whirring and beeping) it will pick up the phone and receive. If there is no signal, it will simply allow the signal to pass through to the phone and answering machine.

Hi,

Since you have verified from the manual and see no issues with the settings I doubt that you have done some thing wron with the settings. Even though just check whether you plugging the phone line into the line jack or the phone jack on the fax machine, it should plug in to line. Also try and unplug/replug the units power cord as well as trying a different phone jack location. If tghis does not work try to capture the error that you get as this would help in entering in the troubleshooting link provided bellow:

The ink level indicator is probably not working. Even if the ink has not all been used it has probably dried up after 2 years so yes it should be replaced.

If the line only appears when making copies but recieved faxes come out ok, then the scanner glass needs to be cleaned. Water and a lint free cloth should do the trick.

Sir/Mam
The problem mite be dirty rollers that feed the paper, try cleaning with alcohol or worn out replace. Problem is the paper roller is miss feeding not taking up the paper instead of hitting something in the machine paper jam.

What kind of fax? Is it a roll or plain paper. Pull the paper out and examine the roller that is pulling the paper in. If this roller has white paper dust on it wipe off with some water on a papertowel and try again.

Paper jams can be tricky to solve. The paper is usually stuck inside the printer mechanism so even if there is no visible paper jam, you will still get the paper jam error. Try this:

1. Turn off your printer
2. Open all trays and remove any paper stuck there
3. Locate the button to open the printer, open it and remove any paper stuck there also.
4. Repeate the above step for all buttons that you can find to access the inside of the printer
5. Close all doors and put back all trays
6. Turn on your printer
