Lite On LITE-ON SOHC-5236V COMBO BK OEM (SOHC5236VBKOEM) Burner Questions & Answers
I hope this will be useful to anyone with driver problems for atapi as i found myself in a pickle with one of their cd roms yellow triangle etc. the problem is with the atapi drivers not being recognised- code 19 and when you update the drivers you ll be told their up to date= no fix. why this happens is antivirus programs can alter the drivers for roms in THE REGISTRY, you may have recently instaled norton 360 for example as did I which knackerd mine.
a genuine microsoft fix.
This is how you fix it for good go to google search engine TYPE IN the following numbers - 314060
you will see a link for - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
go to this page -scroll down it and you,ll see 2 icons men with spanners one is a patch for vista the other for xp .
download the patch for XP even if you have vista as the vista patch wont work when downloaded you can run the fix which will need a computer restart. once restarted your computer will recognise your cd rom again.
who,s the daddy!

maybe the files are hidden. In Windows 7 open windows explorer -> hit the Organize button -> Hit Folder and Search Options -> go to the view tab -> click Show hidden files...In XP I think you open windows explorer -> tools on the toolbar -> folder options -> view tab -> click show hidden files... Then check if you can see the files.

Hello,
Any symptoms? do you hear any sounds from the drive when you press the eject button?
one possible problem might be the small rubber belt between the motor and the mechanism might have broken off or is out of position.
In any case the drive might need to be removed from the pc, and then opened up to see whats going on.

reading ability on lite on will dropped drastically. you can use other writer to burn that disk to minimum speed such as 4X.
then try it on your lite on.
if still cannot be recognized mean the optical sensor is broken or dirty.

Hello
You can only try to clean the lens of your DVD using wet cloth/cotton, if it works, ok, otherwise i doubt you need to replace the DVD.
Good Luck

make sure the drive is getting enough power
one bad/faulty lead can cause a computer lots of problems
make sure all leads that connect to the dvd drive are seated properly including the electrical lead or just replace them there probably old/faulty
hope this helps

Try cleaning the lens, check the tension of the belt that is used to drive the tray in-out, if the belt is loose the tray is'nt aligned properly, this may also cause the problem

likely your drive cable is bad or the drive is bad. restart your machine and load bios and see if its shows up in your bios.fi it does your drive is working. and it could be the disc.

was this a sata or IDE drive (sata has a small cable while IDE has wide cable connector going to the motherboard of your computer) try first to change the cable. check also if the unit is detected in the cmos setup of your motherboard(usually when you press delete during power up you can go to the cmos setup of your computer) check the standard cmos setup and see if the DVD is detected). if all of this fails then i think you need to replace the drive.

Connect the jumper so that the unit will be in slave mode. If this won't work, maybe the unit is broken

No, you can’t. This one is a CD burner and DVD player. Not a DVD burner.
