Dell DJ MP3 Player - Page 9 Questions & Answers
Headphone Jack
the plastic pieces on the top and bottom are just stick on. pry them off gently and you'll find four of the tiniest screws on the top and bottom(you'll need a precision screwdriver) after you remove the screw pull the metal pieces on top and bottom off carefully with the screwdriver. the whole piece is shoehorned in, but it will push out just far enough to reveal the aux. jack. you'll probably find that this piece is cracked and that is why it only play through one or no sides. i'm still looking to find this piece.
hope this is helpful to you,.
Headphone jack
I have the same problem with my DJ 30, and it exists with several different types of headphones.
I am thinking about trying a mono to stereo adaper, where the plug is mono, and the ear phones are stereo. I don't know if it will work or not.
Not downloading music (broken port)
If u r sure that you're dell has no memory left then I hope u have a warranty. Yes, Dell is correct u will have to buy a new one. I suggest buying a Sony Walkman, I have one myself and it's great. It costs ninety bux and also plays videos!
Firmware problem
If it is a firmware problem, your firmware is needed to boot up your mp3 corrrectly, unforuntately if it is a firmware problem your mp3 player so it is bricked.

The solution to many random problems is to simply reset your Dell DJ. This can be done by using a small, thin object (such as the tip of an ink pen) to press the reset button that is on the bottom-left side of the DJ.
-or-
Hold down the play/pause button while it's off, insert a paperclip into the reset button, take it out, and then let go of the play/pause. The DJ should open to a rescue mode, then run disc clean-up.

Anything unusual happen to the player before the problem started? Dropped it or perhaps unplugged it from pc while synchronising?
The most likely fixable problem is a loose connector on the HDD/main board cable, or a failing battery/power adaptor giving the HDD a voltage too low.
unfortunately however the HDD on these players is a bit vulnerable to rough treatment.
When you connect it to a computer, does it still appear as normal or is it not recognised etc. What operating system PC are you using - perhaps formatting from the PC first before trying to install the firmware will help.
Are you using the latest firmware from Dell or are you using a cd that came with the player?
Is your player still under warranty or do you want to try and open it up and have a check yourself.
Let me know more info and what you wish to try :)
Dell DJ won't reload or reboot
I would first suggest reformatting the DJ from Rescue Mode, and then try reloading the firmware from here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R107735&SystemID=PDA_MP3_DJ_2&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=9420&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=31&fileid=139674
If neither of those work, it may be time to look into some repair options.

Dell DJ
hold switch?
try holding play and do the reset. keep holding down play as the DJ starts up and you see rescue mode, select Disk Cleanup. Wait a few mins, the player will restart and you will see Rebuilding Library, hopefully it will work after.
If no go, Its a hardware failure most likely, the only option is to call Dell for a free replacement, dont worry about their refurbish talk, there is a high chance you will get a brand new DJ. Warranty status??
Try charging through the wall AC if you've been trying the USB, or the other way around. It might be a bad battery that doesn't take a charge, especially if it turns on when plugged to the wall/USB.
Good luck
