Chirping is almost always caused by the HOT transistor and Flyback transformer. You can get the Flyback with HOT repair kit for your model from www.tvrepairworld.com they are listed under the RCA Repair kits.

I need to assume you are a DIY and have some electrical experience. If you aren't comfortable taking apart on of these TV's then you should call an expert. If you are comfortable, then read on.

It has been my experience with older rear projectors that the solder joints on the main board become cracked over time. If you have a set that shuts down after warming up, you might be able to check the board for bad joints.

Always be careful when working on these old beasts. I would always unplug them and let them sit over night to discharge a bit before opening them up. The picture tubes still hold a charge so be careful.

Cold solder joints or cracked ones can be seen with really good lighting. Look for a half moon shape on the solder joint, epically on the large transistors near the heat sinks. Be careful not to cause solder bridges when you are touching up the solder joints.

Hope this helps.

If you are getting power to the unit but have no picture, it sounds like the bulb has blown. It is usally located in the rear corner on the back of the unit. I have a samsung rear projection tv that did the same thing and I found it was the bulb that had given up. They are readily available on Ebay for around the $200 mark. The bulb itself is housed in a removable panel that is secured to the rear of the tv, usally 4 screws and it simply slides out. If you have a look at the back of the tv, down towards the bottom, you should see the panel I am referring to held in place by the screws.
Hope this helps somewhat,

When there is sound but no picture, that is usually due to a faulty dmd board. A manual would be helpful in locating the dmd board so you can test it with an analog meter to find out if the capacitors are faulty on the board. This is fairly common in projection tv sets.

The set has failed either in the power management circuits or, more seriously, one of the deflection systems has failed.

The turn on sound is the power management system trying to switch the power ON relay; the current monitoring system is detecting excessive current drain from somewhere in the set and turning itself off. These are among the most serious problems that a set can have.

You can actually reset your tv by unplugging it for a few hours. A full reset requires at least a 4 to 6 hour disconnect of the power cord.

It is the 169 chassis-over 300 different models used it and are different-answer something for me--does it have a GREEN power light that comes on for a second and goes off?

I know this set well and to be honest hated working on them--Let me know about the power light and I will tell you what I know.

At one point in time this was a very good set--I do understand about paying a lot to get it fixed and having it bad again.

I am here to help people and I bet I know more about this set than almost anyone else here.
