RCA P52937 52" Rear Projection Television - Page 5 Questions & Answers
I have no front control panel working and changes channels
The front controls are called Tac Switches. They have a tendency of becoming corroded and sending erroneous commands to the micro. You can disconnect the lead coming from the control panel to the chassis and see if it quits. If it does, that answers your question. If you decide to replace them all, try Encompassparts.com
Picture no sound
If you will look I bet you'll find a switch on the back of the TV for internal or external speaker. It's probably gotten switched to EXT. somehow.
RCA R52WH77 convergence missing from menu
THis is very common on these sets. there is a special fuse thats cause this.. kinda hard to get rca part number 259213.. .4 amp. the reason this blows is there is bad solder connections on the flyback. so when you replace this fuse you have to resolder these connections. so if you know how to solder and can find this special fuse. it is a fast and easy repair
Convergence problem
Yes, this is a convergence problem.
If it is going in and out or showing different symptoms from time to
time, I am suspecting you have an intermittent problem as well.... Have
you done the whacking test? Whack the set with your hand or fist;
smack it a good one on the side, top, back, etc., to see if you can
restore the picture. If the picture will restore - even if only for a
few seconds, then you have a loose connection or a cold solder joint
lurking inside somewhere. It may still be the convergence board or
somewhere else that is effecting the color resolution lines; or you
could have two problems: A) convergence board failure and B)
intermittent condition from a cold solder joint either in the
convergence board or elsewhere.
If you replace the convergence board be prepared to shell out some
serious money. Usuall cost is around $150 to $400 depending on the
unit and the labor and the other parts that may need replacing.
I, personally, don't like RCA brands because I believe they are not too
reliable. So, if you repair it there is a high satistical probability
that something else will go down soon thereafter. RCA in particular
are prone to MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) that catch up with it
soon.
If you call a repair shop that is well trained in RCA big screens and
describe the problem I think they can give you an easy estimation of
what will be needed and how much it will cost.
goodluck,

RCA 52 INCH D52W20B WON'T COME ON
A 1995 60 inch rca good picture and sound. Then it started a cracking noise and a hissing sound, then the picture went blurry. then it was nice picture and sound, then it died. took the back off and turned out the lights. Plugged the tv in and out from the wall socket and there was a sparking noise and a small arc when i plugged it in and out a few times ,at the part that the power plug plugs into. The white part that is beside the white power plug part has thick red wire coming out of it and goes into another plug that has more red wires in it. but the big white part beside the power plug part looks burnt and has black powder on it. that part is probably the problem but maybe not, what it the name of that part and how much would it cost and is it plugged in or soldered.
Green convergance wont adjust, bowed screen
Green really shouldn't be adjusted, you adjust red and blue to the green. When a color is bowed that indicates that a part or two are bad, probably the convergence output IC's and possibly a fuse or fusible resister. You may need a tech to come adjust it for you because after replacing IC's the adjustments should be done in the servicers menus not just in the consumers menus.
