Sounds like it could be the entire light engine.  The part is available on the Internet, but it runs $700 - $1200 without the lamp (although it sounds like you could use your existing lamp without a problem). These parts, however, are notoriously hard to find and may be backordered for months.

May not be worth the cost, but that's up to you.

Try new lamp

just might be the bulb. Have you unpluged you set make sure its cooled down and remove the buld examine the bulb ussally when the bulbs go bad they shatter not always but it good to check them out as the first step

do you have the chassis number?

You need to replace the capacitors on the power board. this is a very common problem with the RCA dlps See my tip under my profile for the ATC336 chassis RCA, your model is the ATC311 but it applies to your model as well.

This is djb1 who commented above on the vertical lines that have gotten progessively worse. I may have found a potential solution. I unplugged the TV, took the back door off where you replace the lamp, took the lamp out, changed our vacuum from a vacuum to a powerful blower and blew ALL visable dust off anywhere that I could. I paid special attention to the heavy dust that was on the TV blower fan blades and around the mirror. I also held the blower on the outside of the TV on the vents around the lamp door.

After I plugged the TV back in, the lines have disappeared. We watched TV last night for about 2 more hours and the vertical lines never came back. So far this morning, the lines have not come back and it has been a couple hours as well.

It's worth a try. The free solution may be as simple as clearing out all dust. LET'S HOPE IT'S A PERMANENT SOLUTION!!

Does your set blink 5 tinmes?

Replace the following 4 capacitors on the power supply board They are CP624, CP639, CP641 and CP647 they are all 1000 uf 35V 105 degree radil capacitors. that should take care of the problem. If you need further help let me know.

Was it ever right side up?

Press power and channel down at the same time to do a soft reset
this should fix it if its a software glitch

You need a new lamp... part number 260962 (RCA) or Philips 260962RL.

I don't know if I had any lightning, but it is possible because my DVR/Cable box was operating on limited capacity right before this started. I unplugged everything to reset the DVC/Cable box, and when I turned the tv on, I got real tv sound for a few seconds and then a "no signal" message in the center of the screen. This happens every time I turn it on. It is not the DVR/Cable box because I hooked it up to another tv and it works fine. It's not a bulb because I would still get sound...like this other person, none of my inputs will pick up the cable. I really don't want to just have a random service person in here to charge me to figure it out if someone can lead me down the right path to getting it fixed. Please help, I love this tv and don't want to replace it. LH

if your model is the HDLP50W151 your color wheel is 212.00 at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions and also free tech support to help you with the Indexing when your finished as all color wheels in RCA TVs have to be indexed after instalation. You need color wheel 212184 heres the link

You have the ATC 332 chassis you can get the service manual at the following link and that will explain how to tell if the color wheel is bad. heres the link they will email the manual to you within minutes. Its listed under the RCA catagory on the left side.
