It sounds like the convergence has failed, and if it is all over the screen and very pronounced I would check that the scan coils have not loosened and moved before I investigated for an electronic fault in the convergence circuit

I appreciate your vote if you appreciate my reply.

There is a short circuit in the high voltage circuit. the transformer who helps to create the high voltage or his power transistor is damage. replacement needed. the repair is not expensive, because the parts are average repair. Ask for an estimate.

There is a good chance that the failure is in the main power supply.
A second chance is that the set is protecting itself from a failure after the supply; this is more likely to occur in the horizontal section where the highest power consumption occurs.
If the failure is in the supply, it could be a fairly reasonable cost repair. If in the horizontal section, depending on whether the failure is limited to a $10 horizontal output transistor or a bad flyback transformer. The transformer should still be available but with markup, shipping and installation, the cost could exceed the $100 US mark.
Generally, I have been recommending folks repair their old standard definition sets, buy a converter box for digital TV, and not dispose of them since the flat panel sets are dying like flies, often just after the warranty expires.   This would at least provide some kind of set when the expensive LCD or plasma sets go belly up.

Are there any external speakers next to your tv? The magnets in the speakers will cause this effect to happen. If you do, relocate them and the pattern should go away.

The set has gone into protective shutdown. This is to prevent further damage. The most common part failure is hte horizontal output transistor. This is a 3-legged part attached to a heat sink close to the flyback transformer (part with large red wire coming out of the top). Try replacing that part.
Keep us posted.

The text box function of the closed captioning is on. There may be a button on the remote to turn it off or you may have to go into the menu to do it.

Use code search on your RCA remote control to find something that works. If a search through all codes stored in the remote control fails, you may have to try a different one. All remote controls do not contain all possible codes.
