sounds like the wrong plug end just because it works doesn't mean its right plug end. as usually the bulb on the tip of the plug closes a switch to turn tv speakers off this obviously isnt happening

When you say not turning on is it completely dead, or has it gone into stand by mode, needing the remote to fire it up. Might sound patronising but are you sure both fuses are good?? Might have been in a spare room and got damp on the circuit boards and blown a internal fuse.

I have seen this problem before bad IC on vertical circuit or bad capacitors, I would start by checking the caps and then move on to checking the IC( integrated circuit)voltage in, voltage out with dvm.

Have you looked at the headphone jack? Sometimes a set is left plugged in and sound wil not come out of speakers. Also, look at cable box. It can sometimes have a separate volume control. last, if you plug in a set of headphones and you hear sound, pick up a pair of inexpensive powered speakers and use those.

Usually means power supply problems. Unplug and check inside set near on/off button where power comes in, look for burnt or damaged components.

Its memory IC should be faulty. Will look somewhat like this, and can be located very near to the main system control IC. Replace it and check.

you may have a convergence ic gone could also be a bad joint on one of the chips or a coil dry jointed
