I have a 10 year old Samsung TV model PCL5415R that is taking longer and longer to turn on when off for extended period for example overnight. Started with a few minutes now up to 10 minutes and I ha

Wrong answer! This set doesn't have a dedicated power board so its not an option to replace the board but I'm able to give a some help that should get the set operating again, this is a very common problem for your model TV, try this, after its sat overnight to where you have issues with it coming on put a hair dryer on the air fins in the back of the tv and turn it on low for about 10 mins, then unhook the hair dryer and try to turn the TV on, I'm quite sure it will come on, what is going on is it has some low grade capacitors imported from China that are failing, if you know how to solder its easy to see what caps are bad as they will bulge out on the end away from the leads, you can order them about anywhere for a few cents each but stay away from the Chinese imports, if your unable to solder then you would need to take the set in for repair but it may not be worth the cost. One word of caution, the larger capacitors in the TV can hold a charge for several hours so if your going to work on it and are comfortable doing this let the set sit for about a day before attempting the repair...Good luck.

Convergence board

A bluish picture is not a result of its bad convergence board. Check its video output card, for any loose solder terminals or damaged component/s. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up older posts. Check the site in 'Mosaic' view. It will make search easy.

Screen is the color blue?

That isn't convergence that does that. There are "screen" trimmers, if someone has messed them up you can get all one color, but the usual cause is the picture tube going bad. The screen trimmers are on the PC board on the gun (narrow) end of the CRT. Some trimmers are color drive and others are color black level, or "screen". Don't adjust the color drives, it is a delicate balancing act to get them right. Find the one labelled blue and turn it down. If all you can get is too dark, turn the red and green up, just enough to see a dim color haze in a blank picture. Balance them out so the haze is gray. Then turn them all down just a hair so the screen is just black. Then try a picture. If you can't get gray on a blank screen then go to the high voltage transformer (the one that can kill you if you touch the wrong part) and adjust the "screen" control on its side up (it adjusts all the colors together). If you still can't get gray, one or more of the color guns is weak, and you may as well chuck it. Of course it could also be a bad blue drive transistor, but fixing that takes more expertise than you can get from a forum. Actually, just getting the TV open and propped up so it doesn't fall over is a job in itself...

Blue lines on screen

Go to a unused video input and examine the screen----if you see blue with slightly curved trace lines the blue screen control for the set is set just a bit too high.

Red and blue colors are way too vivid! What is the problem?

Check for any loose solder terminals at its video output card. This card can be located on the neck of the picture tube. Most of the components in it will heat up while TV works. Repeated heating and cooling, might make solder terminals to get loose. Resolder all suspected solder terminals by applying a little more solder. Visit the site refered here, and surf though. you might get details from here, I'm sure.

Tv wont turn on. it does show the red indicate

Hello,

The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.

The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board.

I do not think it needs replacement, rather some defective capacitors are causing this issue.
Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.

The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)

You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.

What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).

You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors).
After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored.

Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.

I hope this helps.

Good luck....

Cant get the blue convergence to move on tv, has a

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Recently I moved my tv

There is no question in my mind that the extreme cold is the prevailing factor. Depending how long the set was in the cold determines the time needed at room temperature before you even plug it in. I have recommended up to 24 hours before the set is even used, because parts heat up rapidly when first turned on there is a greater chance of failure especially when it comes right out of the elements. From your description it sounds like one part has failed shutting the tv down and it is probably in the power supply, in my opinion it is worth getting it checked out.

When u turn it on the red light blinks then cuts

Hi Steven,

This is an indication of out-of-regulation in the power supply section. The very common caused of this fault is the leaky electrolytic capacitor in that section. It will drop the supply from normal voltage and will disable the unit. Sometimes it has a bulged/dome at the top but not all, it is better that you have a capacitor checker/tester to determine its condition. Also, bad solder joints can produce the same symptom, it is hard to spot, you should use table lamp/portable lamp for finding the cold solder. Secondary reason of fault is the open fuse/fusible resistor in series with the output of regulator IC/transistor, shorted/openRegulator IC/transistor, shorted zener diode(all are in the power supply section) and the microcontroller. Best that you check the output voltage of each regulator to determine where the fault came from and narrow the job.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instruments, and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the problem. Don't attempt to work in the power supply if you don't know the safety precaution of handling it, there some stored electricity enough to hurt you with a little mistake only.

Also check if your unit is under warranty /extended warranty, avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free. Don't open the back panel, this will void the warranty.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

Dead. No power. The TV

This is a failed power supply / power board for sure. It can be repaired but is quite costly. How old is this TV? It may be much more cost effective to just replace the unit.
