HI,
Q. is there any particular colour or shade to this square , and how long dose it stay on the screen.?.
Sorry no answer to the problem yet but if you answer these Q. for me I will get back to you on it.P
The sound dies after a while and comes and goes.
It may be worth it to fix it. Could be something as small as a bad soldering connection. Unless you have a lot of ability with electronics most consumers would be unable to fix a problem of this nature. Also most times it isn't worth it to repair. You can go to craigslist.com and find a used replacement for 40-50$ that would most likely be a better tv. Though I would still call a professional or bring it in to a nearby tv service center as It may be a cheap fix and you can get an estimate for quite cheap and know wether it will be worth it or not. Another easy fix, would be to buy a 5.1 surround sound system. You can get them at walmart for as little as 40$ to 60$. Just have your audio go through the stereo instead of your tv. If you need any further assistance please let me know. Also please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,

If it's not yet a year old it should have some warranty - take it to the shop.. It's probably the HOT (Horizontal Output Transistor) which have been a problem child in this series all the way back to the TXP2745... But don't even crack the case on this one if it's that new - labor might not be covered but parts might. In any event replacing the HOT is not a difficult or expensive job.

Dez,
The ticking indicates a feed back on the power supply - most likely the shutdown circuit itself because something up-circuit is shorted. MY first guess would be the HOT (Horizontal Output Transistor) - Second guess the FBT or Flyback Transformer...
I might have the service manual for that, just email me personally and make it clear what you're after. I get nearly 3000 emails a day and I be real lucky to remember what this is all about when I get the mail...

Wavy picture
You have problems with your power supply filters. I'd suggest you to change the mainfilter, that is the capacitor just after the ac rectifier and the b+ filter, that is the capacitor at the output of the smps, and then vertical filter and video filter. These are all capacitors with higher microfarad ratings, if you are not much comfortable, it's better to get some help from someone who is familiar with these. Pay attention not to reverse the polarity when changing the capacitors.
Audio
it is not remote problem
please check the following
1 speaker or its wire for loose
2 check supply to sound section
3 check loose contact or loose part or print.
4 check for loose connector
5 check audio ic
6 check for signal to sound section ic is coming.
hope this will help.
TV
If you are using cable and the signal is connected to the TV through the regular cable wire, then the TV must be in TV mode to work properly. If you are using a cable box with that TV then the TV must be on channel 3. If the screen shows AV 1, then the TV is in the AV mode (red, white and yellow RCA jacks), and you most likely accidently hit the INPUT button on the remote. Pressing 0 3 or INPUT a couple of times on the remote should bring your picture back.
