You need to determine if it is a charger problem or a problem in the Nuvi. If you have the AC wall charger, plug that into your Nuvi. If the unit boots normally, then you can discount that there is a problem with the Nuvi. Does the Nuvi power up on its own internal battery with the charger disconnected? When you change the fuse and it blows, is the charger plugged into the Nuvi? Try changing the fuse and powering up the charger without it being plugged into the Nuvi. If the fuse still blows, then the fault is with the charger. Please also be aware that the charger converts +12VDC from the car battery to +5VDC to power the Nuvi. Some chargers can fail and provide +12VDC directly to the Nuvi. This can damage the Nuvi and will certainly blow the fuse.

I have the identical symptoms on a 2797 and can not get past this screen. I have charged it with the genuine 12v power cord and the battery last about two hours but still will not get to the map loading stage. Kevin H

The battery may be faulty, try connecting the GPS to your computer to see it will connect and starts charging. If it does not connect you have a serious problem probably not worth reparing as the cost can be as much as a new one.
