Hi Bill, the power board in your TV has been extremely reliable and had few failures, it's very simple to test the board, you will see a marking on the board saying 8v standby 13 on, with the set off you should see 8 volts, power it on and you should see 13. Hi Peter, you can do a factory reset to get the TV back to factory settings however I doubt that will fix anything, generally a washed out picture is a bad tcon board, main board or the panel itself, if the set has a tcon I'd try replacing that as it's the lowest cost board and generally causes the issues you're seeing.

I hate giving someone bad news but this model set has a lot of main board issues, there have been many revisions to the original board trying to rectify the issues., you need to match your set to the date code or serial number to get the correct board, the bad news is the main boards can be hard to find and quite costly. Going by what you've described, I'd say you have a bad panel and the set isn't fixable however try this before junking the TV, remove the flat ribbon cables, clean then replace them, if that doesn't fix it you can replace the tcon board however I don't think this will help, sorry I don't have better news for you.
