SAMSUNG HLS5086WX/XAA

Hello,
I stumbled across this web page and am hoping it will help solve some of my questions. I just had this TV sent from overseas from the US to Germany where I am stationed. Upon arrival it does not turn on. When I hit the power button the light turns green, and then turns off and the STD BY / LAMP LED goes flashing red. I removed the back cover to see if I could see anything happening, and it appears that the light turns on very briefly, and then turns off. I have never worked on a DLP TV, and have no idea where a good place to start is. I would think the bulb is fine if it powers up. I removed the light and reseated about 3-4 connections with no improvements. I am somewhat electronically competent and should be able to gain access to multimeters and any other instruments i might need. I was wondering if there is an easy way to test the ballast, or would it be ok as well if it was able to power on the bulb even tho brief. If not the ballast, are any of these symptoms pointing towards the DMD board? If you have any sugjestions, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have the same problem, I just changed the colorwheel and lamp on my DLP TV ( HLR5064w).
Then I had some picture issues, the reds and blues swapped.
So then I found out it was a what they call a " Jumper " that had to be removed.
After that the tv worked awesome, but the next morning when I turned it on there was no picture so now is it a ballast or board problem????????

I need help please.....thanks

Green Plaid then Vertical Lines, Failure of hard controls, Analog Board?

Dear Sir

I have a Samsung 50" DLP Model HL-R5076W (model code HLR5067WAX/XAA) type number AT50L6 made in August 2005 (bought new) its worked fine until recently when it started to have these symptoms...

On an analog input (DVD connected to component input) it came on with non-moving plaid-like pattern of lines, the picture was mostly green (with some blue/purple tints) and slow moving.. i.e. maybe only about 1/4 normal frame rate, until finally the picture would lock up and then the sets controls would lock up (non responsive to physical buttons on the set OR remote control input, although the remote indicator lamp will flash on the set when you press a remote button). Had to unplug/replug to reset the set.

Comes back on, didn't have the problem immediately but then it came back after a few minutes. By plugging/unplugging I was able to determine that it only does this on analog inputs, digital inputs (HDMI, PC/VGA and AIR- with a HD signal) all work fine.

Also... if displaying an analog signal WITH the plaid pattern, if I turn on the TV's menu or the TV-GUIDE that content displays just fine (over top of or including PIP with bad plaid but main display ok).

The problem has become steadily worse to the point that now its not doing the green plaid lines, but locking up and going to a blank screen very rapidly... now does this on digital inputs sometimes too.

I am an electrical engineer and purchased the service manual, and I believe the problem to be the "analog board" since it seems to process all analog signals before handing off to the digital board AND because it processes all controls (physical buttons on the set and remote control) plus the power supply routes through this board to other circuits within the set.

I know the lamp/balast are ok, color wheel is spinning and the DMD/Light Engine must be ok since it can display the TV's menus and TV-GUIDE just fine. Equally the power supply itself must be ok since things are working normally.

In your opinion am I on the right track? do you think replacing the analog board (bought from samsungparts.com) would be my best option?

You can reply to [email protected] or [email protected] with your answer.

Thanks for your time.
Ben

You are absolutely correct, When anyone complains of vertical lines or bars, the next step is to see if it happens on only digital inputs ( digital board ) , only analog inputs ( analog board ) , or both ( DMD board ) .

Analog board can be purchased at www.partstore.com ,

Replacing the digital board: bp94-02084a

Is this something a novice can do? Or is this better left for the pros?
I did do my own bulb replacement - piece of cake. Now my repair guy is suggesting that I need to replace this part.bp94-02084a
#1 - i don't want to shell out $600 for him to fix it.
#2- i am not crazy about paying $400 for the part, but if I can save on the labor, it would hurt less.
#3 - I am in the digital signage business and want to beat up my Samsung rep!!

Dfutch,
Actually replacing most modules in the DLP line are fairly straight forward and you could probably do it with some care and patience. But there are MANY screws and wiring that need to be removed before you get to the board and that can be overwhelming in itself... You just might be far better off to leave the Tv fixin to a tech - who would look pretty stupid trying to put a digital sign together.. :)

My Samsung 50" DLP HDTV keeps humming when the DLP lamp comes on.

I have a Samsung HLR5067WX 50" DLP HDTV that is 3 years old. For the past two days, my tv has been humming everytime it is turned on and then stops when it is turned off. The DLP lamp has been replaced about a year ago and besides the humming noise, there is nothing wrong with the tv. The HD picture, sound and everything else works perfectly fine. Please help so I don't have to keep turning my tv up to 10 to drown out the humming noise.

Hi, you have one of two problems, either the color wheel is going or one of the cooling fans are going, the color wheels are a very common problem in samsung dlp`s, sorry I can`t nail it to a specific part but I`d bet it`s the color wheel as they are notorious for failing in samsungs, video-tek

These are the Tests that should be run to determine which board is bad.You should call a good TV Tech if you are not familiar with this TV.
- The DDP1011 on the DMD board has a feature to display internal test patterns.
- DNle, which is an end port in the digital board, has a feature to display internal test patterns.
- The analog board sends signals to ADV7402 on the digital board.
- The analog board is the first output and the digital board is the second one, followed by DMD, which is the final one.
■ Diagnosis By Module
1. Access Service Mode
(In Standby mode, press "Mute", "1", "8", "2" and "Power" to turn the screen on and enter service mode)
2. Check if there is an error in the DMD board
DDP1011 → TEST PATTERN → Press the right arrow key:
Options of FULL WHITE, BLACK, RED, GREEN and BLUE PATTERN are displayed on the screen.
If "Pattern" does not appear, this is a DMD board error.
3. Check if there is an error in the digital board before the DMD.
When the DMD board has been determined to be error free based on the test patterns:
FACTORY MODE → DNIe → TEST PATTERN normal display: no error in the digital board.
If "Pattern" does not appear, it may be from a DMD board or ATI error or there is an analog board malfunction.
4. Check if there is an error in the analog board.
Check for a power signal from the analog to the digital boards

This sounds like you may have a bad color wheel. If you want to change this yourself you need to be aware that even with the tv unplugged there are still dangerous voltages in the set.
Changing the color wheel is an involved repair the wheel it's self is very fragile to handle, they can be purchased on line from many sources.

The cost from a service center would be a normal service charge plus about $150.00 for a color wheel. If you have a service center come out to your house explain your problem clearly and they will know they need to bring a color wheel, it will prevent the tech from having to make a second visit.

Samsung HLR5067W replaced color wheel, LAMP light blinks

I have a Samsung HLR5067W that had a busted color wheel. I just replaced the color wheel and the tv sounds 100 times better, but still does teh same thing. By that I mean the LAMP light blinks until the STANDBY light comes on for 2 seconds then it repeats that process 2 more times before all 3 lights (LAMP, STANDBY, TEMP) on the front blink simultaneously. I checked the back of the unit when trying to power on and the lamp never lights up. I want to go ahead and replace the ballast, because it sounds like the problem. Can anyone confirm this solution? Thanks

I have a Samsung HLR5067WAX/XAA 56 inch, rear

I have a Samsung HLR5067WAX/XAA 56 inch, rear projection. Replaced lamp on it two years ago, was working fine. This morning a sudden thunderstorm blew in. When the power came back on, the cable picture looks kile green and pink plaid. The TV Guide Screen came in fine. After unplugging the set and letting it sit, I plugged it back in, the cable and DVD picture still scrambled, and it started to make a high pitched whine. Had to unplug TV from wall because the Off button would not work. What can I do to fix this?

Hi,If your tv is a dlp you might be experimenting a color wheel problem. The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms. The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will get color distortion ,black and white picture and sometimes you will hear humming noises. Here's the instructions to replace it http://www.fixyourdlp.com/guides/samsung/bp96-01579a.php and your part # is BP96-01103A Have a bless one!
