Unfortunately complaints about blue ray players are ridiculously high.
I always recommend that people look at sites such as consumer reports,
Cnet or even read the reviews on Amazon.com to see what people are saying about that model.
Samsung makes really good products but the reality is that noone makes a "great" blue ray player. Every one has issues such as those you describe but the most common complaint is that they take forever to read discs. (personally, I felt the HD dvd format was better and more stable but marketing wise Toshiba dropped the ball)
The ONLY company that makes a reliable blue ray and technically its not meant to be a blue ray player is Sony with their playstation 3.
Read some reviews on it most people would agree that its a nice stable platform that has some shortcomings but none of the stability issues that other brands have shared.
At this point I would recommend exchanging your unit if possible. Another possible solution is to check to see if Samsung has an updated firmware for your unit as this often fixes issues that should have been resolved before the unit hit stores.
Unfortunately lately I have noticed that in the rush to get products to store shelves companies force new models to market figuring that they can resolve the issues as they go (remember only a low percentage of consumers will complain)
By the way the first company to really do this was Microsoft back when they released the original Xbox they knew that there were going to be problems but the financial need to get it on shelves before the crucial Christmas sales period pretty much forced them to ship a poorly engineered product.
Hope that helps
