How do I know if a new/used car cd player will fit?
yes.......... just buy a mounting kit for your car and a wire harness for your car.........to install just unplug factory radio and clip the harness on to factory plugs that you just unhooked from factory radio now just attach the same colour to colour wires from your new deck to the harness......mounting kit comes with instructions
(make sure to buy WIRE HARNESS & MOUNTING KIT for your car) and your install should take less than a hr to do
have fun

Display not illuminating
Check to see if your aux line is still connected to the aux ignition wire. this is needed for synchronization when you turn on your park light. if this isn't connected or has come apart, you will experience this problem. also, if the in dash has experienced extreme heat during loud play, you could have experienced a burnout. this is also common when over driving the dash device. im hoping its the first problem.

DEH-2050MPG
Yesterday I installed the Pioneer DEH-2050MPG in an old Beetle I just bought, and had the same problem. The instructions were completely useless; Ignore them.
Here's how to set the time...
1. Hold the source button down until clock starts flashing.
2. Use arrow buttons to set time.
3. Press source again to save.
That's what worked for me.

Installing pioneer deck
Considering you have done many installs, make sure you check the fuse in the back of the unit. Then check all the fuses in your car. My car has 4 fuses for the radio.

Wiring diagram
First, goto a store and buy a snap in wire harness and a mounting kit. There are wire diagrams in the packaging. Wire your wire harness into the radios wire harness (everything is color coded). Follow the intructions to install the mounting kit. It should tell you what screws to remove from your dash and so forth. Just remeber were everything goes. Next, after you remove the old radio, snap in you wire harness to the cars wire harness. Then, test the radio to see if it powers up and all speakers are working. Lastly, put you radio in your dash, and put everything back togeather. The number one rule in installation is take your time. If you rush, you will brake something.
