If it is pulsating, it needs to be tuned up. No power, replace battery.

Odds are it's overheating and can't breathe. Check for clogs in the wands (they are very thin in diameter). They can also clog in the lower hose and/or the long hose you use for attachments. If all that is clear your filter could be clogged. But it definitely sounds like it's overheating.

Most of the time when I run into this problem it means there is a malfunction in the actual unit itself. More than likely you will need to replace it.

Suction stops when there is either something blocking inside the hose or you vacuumed a sharp object that created a hole or tears in the hose or bottom transfer line. You will need to look very carefully at the hose to see is something is jammed up also turn the unit over and look at the looping hoselike section to see if there is a tear or jam. if its a jam carefully remove the object. if its a tear you will need to get the part from Dyson to replace it. since the unit is new you can also send it in for repair. depending on whether the unit is new or refurbished you should have from 1-5 years.

You may want to take the battery to a Batteries Plus or such - sometimes a battery will show voltage just fine, but choke once there's a load on it.
