Why is bobbin not catching thread?

It could be that the hook timing is adrift but quite likely that the machine is misthreaded or the needle bent. Get a NEW needle, check your handbook for how to insert it and re-read how to thread your machine. The upper thread could be misthreaded or the bobbin not threaded correctly. The bobbin may look like its threaded OK but if the thread is coming off the bobbin in the wrong direction the machine will never see. Hope this helps.

Singer error codes

I just downloaded and took a look at the user's manual at the singer site--I recommend you do the same, the manual is invaluable. On page 29, it says the the bobbin winder is in operation. Typically, you engage the bobbin winder by moving a shaft over--move it back into sewing position.

How do I fix the looping under the material when I sew?

the looping on the bottom usually is a tension problem, the top & bottom tension are unequal usually fixed by adjusting the top tension. some people that I've talked with have had success with changing to a different size needle ( depends what type of thread is being used). when the machine is threaded the foot needs to be up ( this releases tension on the thread), when the foot is lowered it the tension is set on the thread. if the material being sewed is too thick it raises the foot too high & releases tension on the thread ( the material has to be really thick to do this). if there a piece of thread or lint in or around the tensioner or bobbin area it could cause trouble. other wise if you've tried everything you can think of, take it back th the store & have them try it & tell you what is wrong. also this machine has bad reviews (i'll provide a link so you can read them), people having the same problems as you are. the newer singers just don't seem to be the same quality tha the older ones were. all bad reviews http://www.amazon.com/Singer-5400-60-stitch-Sewing-Machine/product-reviews/B007ZG9DTQ/ref=cm_cr_pr_btm_link_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=byRankDescending mixed reviews http://reviews.walmart.com/1336/20573406/singer-5400-sew-mate-60-stitch-sewing-machine-5400-reviews/reviews.htm

How to change stich to long stich for gathering?

http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/3e3e5558857ed68836712ac8545abb48178772a5.pdf is the manual for your machine; look at p. 27. You want stitch 00, and then increase the stitch length with the up/down buttons on the control panel. p. 24 of the pdf covers adjusting the top tension of the machine; you'll have an easier time of gathering if you reduce the top tension about 1-2 number setting.

Can't work lever to raise foot on Singer sewing machine

Presser Foot Release Lever: First, check if the presser foot release lever is functioning properly. Sometimes, it may be stuck or not engaging correctly. Make sure it moves freely and isn't obstructed. If it's not working, try slackening the presser foot tension using the dial on top of the machine. If that doesn't help, you might need to adjust the presser bar slightly. Presser Bar Adjustment: If the presser bar was loose to begin with, completely slacken off the pressure. Put the presser foot up using the lever, then slacken off the screw on the bar and adjust the presser bar as needed. Handwheel Stuck: If the handwheel is stuck, it could be due to issues with gears, cams, or other internal mechanisms. Inspect the machine's casing or access panel for any signs of damage, such as broken teeth on gears or misaligned cams. Thread Take-Up Lever: If the take-up lever isn't moving up and down even when you manually turn the handwheel, check the hand clutch. Tighten and adjust the inner portion of the wheel on the right side of your machine and the hand clutch. If these don't do the job, you might consult Singer's customer service or a repair shot.

My Singer 312 won't go back to a straight stitch. Any ideas? TIA

Inspect the Stitch Width Control: The stitch width control determines how wide the zigzag stitch is. If it's set to a wide zigzag, the machine will remain in that mode. Adjust the stitch width control to the narrowest setting (usually zero) for straight stitching. Clean and Lubricate: Dust, lint, or debris can interfere with the machine's mechanisms. Turn off the machine, unplug it, and clean the bobbin area, feed dogs, and needle plate. Lubricate any moving parts according to the manufacturer's instructions. Check the Needle Position: Make sure the needle is centered. If it's off-center, the machine may default to zigzag mode. Adjust the needle position if needed. Test with a New Needle: A bent or dull needle can cause stitching issues. Replace the needle with a new one and ensure it's compatible with your machine. Reset the Machine: Turn off the machine, unplug it, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the internal settings. Consult the Manual: Refer to your Singer 312 sewing machine's manual for specific troubleshooting steps related to zigzag issues. The manual may provide additional insights or solutions.

The needle and hand wheel on my singer 140q are both jammed. There were no issues with the bobbin or case, no jams there. I can still wind a bobbin on top but once I switch it back to sew the needle and hand wheel are still stuck. No busted belts either.

If both the needle and the hand wheel on your Singer 140Q sewing machine are jammed, it indicates a more serious issue that likely requires attention. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the problem: 1. Turn Off the Machine: Start by turning off the sewing machine and unplugging it from the power source. This ensures safety while you troubleshoot the issue. 2. Check for Obstructions: Inspect the area around the needle and hand wheel for any obstructions such as broken needles, tangled thread, or debris. Remove any obstructions carefully. 3. Rotate the Hand wheel: Gently try to rotate the hand wheel manually. If it's stuck, avoid forcing it as this could cause further damage. Instead, try to identify what's causing the jam by examining the mechanism closely. 4. Inspect the Bobbin Area: Open the bobbin case and remove the bobbin. Check for any tangles of thread or debris that could be causing the jam. Clean the bobbin area thoroughly. 5. Check the Needle: Remove the needle and inspect it for any damage. Replace the needle if it's bent, dull, or damaged in any way. 6. Oil the Machine: Lubrication is important for smooth operation. Apply a drop of sewing machine oil to the moving parts, such as the hand wheel shaft and other points indicated in your machine's manual. 7. Professional Inspection: If you're unable to resolve the issue on your own, consider taking your sewing machine to a qualified technician for inspection and repair. They can diagnose the problem accurately and perform any necessary repairs. Attempting to force the machine to work when it's jammed can potentially cause further damage. So, proceed with caution and prioritize safety while troubleshooting the issue.

Can I use a vintage singer 161103 zigzagger attachment on a 201 k machine?

No I don't think it will. That attachment is for a 'Slant Shank' machine like a 301. The K on the Sewing machine model number simply means it was built in Scotland. That means it is basically the same as most other 201's.

Singer Futura CE 150. I bought a used carriage unit attachment for it and the it drags really hard. It won't move at all while on the machine or when I take it off. Is there a way to fix it? Thanks

Question edited for clarity. Do you mean the embroidery unit. If it is secondhand and has been stored for a long time, sewing machine oil, or worse WD40 goes 'gummy'. You would need to clean all the out. WD40 is a good solvent, so spray, leave it to soak, spray again and agitate with a brush. The wash it all off with hot soapy water. Dry thoroughly and after a few days, lubricate metal parts with sewing machine oil and any plastic parts with a dry silicone spray like Jigaloo. Test Jigaloo on a flat piece of plastic first as it is also a powerful fast drying solvent.
