Toshiba D-VR4 DVD Recorder/VCR Questions & Answers
I own a D-VR7KC2 DVD VIDEO RECORDER /
You must have a show that has an anti-copy signal imbedded into the show causing it to not be recorded. This is due to DRM rules on copy right materials.
D-VR18DTKB - When dubbing from
Get sycronized because you're going to have to stop the video player and the CD you are dubbing onto at the exact second or have a glitch in it. I used to do weddings and other video services and used two sometimes three cameras. If I were you I could edit my video before I downloaded it to a master copy unless of course you have a hi-tech CD recorder with a built in dubbing feature. I didn't but one of my cameras did. I would make a rough video mixing different scenes from different cameras and get the scenes and angles where I wanted them in the video. When it looked right I usually edited music over it or narrated it, didn't have a CD player more less a recorder back then. If you are using a camera or a video recorder that will fade in and out use that feature to do your editing. It works perfect and looks good, If it fades in different colors use a color that kinda reflects on the previous scene or that will set up the next scene. When you get your tape like you want it burn it on to a DVD!. this will make a good master disk. I am going out on a limb and assuming that you are using video tape to do this, but if your using CD's the same principle applies. It can be a lot of fun and when you get good at it and get a computer with the right software you can move heads and add and replace people. If you have access to a computer you can download software for free that will let you do a professional of a rough CD to your master and it will do most of the work. Remember, if you copy a second generation Cd you can get pretty good quality but the more it's copied the more quality it looses.
Good luck and have fun;

Hello
Just try this. Reset the parential passcode once and see whether it helps you tp play these CDs.
Open the disc tray; if there
is a disc inside then remove it and close the tray. To
reset the code press and hold number 7 on the remote
control, then press and hold STOP on the front
panel at the same time. The On-Screen Display will
show "Parental Unlock". You can now set a new password
If the trouble is with any settings that you have done earlier and has confused the main bios IC and memory, this process will clear it out and you get the set with its original factory settings. if this also does not help you, as you say, even your system does not recogonize the CDs, it will be difficult to get them back. OK.
How do you finalize a
If there is a save button, that will finalize the recording you had. You may play it on a separate file to check if it is recorded properly..
Cannot insert a videotape into
Check to see if there are any obstructions (things blocking the tape loader). If not, you'll probably have to get a new VCR.
I would like simple steps
Hi ,
Please follow the instructions below to record from VHS to DVD. You may not be able to record from some pre-recorded VHS cassettes due to copyight protection embedded into the recording. You should stick some tape over the copy-protection tab on cassettes prior to recording if the tab has been removed. On some cassettes, there may be a slide switch which needs to be moved to the record/rec position. All pre-recorded cassettes will have the copy-protection tab removed.
1. Switch on the TV and DVD/VCR and select the correct input on the TV for the player.
2. Set the player for the recording direction, i.e. VCR to DVD . . .
- Press the SETUP key on the Toshiba remote to open the on-screen menu
- Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight GENERAL SETTING then press ENTER
- Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight RECORDING then press ENTER
- Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight DUBBING MODE then press ENTER
- Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to highlight VCR > DVD then press ENTER
- Press the SETUP key again to close the on-screen menu
3. Press VCR to select VCR mode.
4. Insert the cassette you wish to record and fast-forward or rewind it to the position where you want to start recording from. Allow at least 5 seconds extra if not starting the recording from the beginning of a cassette.
5. Press PLAY then press PAUSE immediately.
6. Press DVD to select DVD mode
7. Insert a blank DVD
8. Press the REC MODE button to select the recording mode (XP / SP / LP, etc)
9. Press the DUBBING key to start the recording.
You can watch the VCR while it's recording. When you reach the point where you want the recording to end, press the STOP key. You do not need to repeat step 2 every time you record. The player will stay in VCR > DVD recording mode unless you change it.
Hopefully, you will now be able to record from VCR to DVD. If you need further assistance, please let me know.

now that the transfer is done, put the DVD back in and run through the menu options to finalize. If automatically finalizing is an option, you could do that next time you transfer a VHS to DVD. But this first one you can finalize after the fact.
I have a D-VR7KC2 DVD
The short answer is "yes", but it really depends on your TV having more than one input.
You would put a cable splitter (see Google images) on the wire that comes out of the wall. One of the OUT connections would be to the cable box, and the other would go directly to your Toshiba unit.
Depending on the outputs of your cable box, and the inputs of your TV, each unit would be connected to a TV input either by cable or video connections. You would then switch back and forth between the input from the cable box - when you wanted to watch live, digital TV - or the Toshiba when you wanted to set up/watch recordings.

After watching a pre programe tape ...while rewind
I love these kinds of problems. Whenever a VCR eats tapes, it sounds like a combination of one or more things including;
mode switch;
worn/glazed/shiny pinch roller;
poor back tension on the reel tables;
stretched belts (if more than one belt is present in your machine).
Unless you have some technical knowledge of basic VCRs, I do not recommend that you undertake replacing any of the mechanical components yourself, as alignment/timing is involved. The replacement of those parts relating to the deck (if required) should be done by a professional service centre. They would have the necessary tools and facilities to do this.
I suggest that you take the unit to a workshop where they can examine it thoroughly - but get a quote first if you have any doubts about the likely cost(s). That way, you can decide afterwards if it is economical to repair the VCR or not. Up to you.
It could be something really simple, you should not need to replace the whole combo. Fingers crossed.

Hi,
Please clean your lens. If you still get same problem, you may need replace the lens with new one.

Dvd recorder will not turn
These devices are usually protected at the circuit board and power supply level by fusible links- small resistors, that act like fuses when spikes hit the device from line voltage fluctuations. You could also have a faulty power switch, or bad power supply.
The unit will have to be troubleshot, and tv or computer shop should be able to do it. Get an estimate first, but it will probably be cheaper than buying a new one.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

The fault is in the processing of the CHROMA section- processing of the chroma in the composite signal which has developed a snag.
This is purely a possible fault in the Y/Chroma processor IC and only a replacement could be a solution.
You can try to see if the crystal oscillator to the chroma IC is malfunctioning, it can be re-soldered or replaced to confirm.
Replacing the IC must be done only if you competent otherwise take consensus.
