Toshiba D-VR4 DVD Recorder/VCR - Page 4 Questions & Answers
When I turn my Toshiba D-VR4 recorder on, it won't go to DVD
I figured it out with absolutely no help from the manual. To initiate recording, you have to press the timer/set button. After the DVD recorder finishes recording, you have to re-press the timer/set button to take it out of recording mode. I think their book needs to explain that more clearly.
Cannot record from my DirectTV DVR, HR20-700
most dvr units froim cable and satellite companies use a type of copy protection that does not allow you to copy programs to a disc. the cable company wont tell you this but they do and there isnt any way to work around it
Toshiba D VR660KU DVD VCR combo
The unit will only allow 2 hour recording on the DVD+R format. The DVD-R format is adjustable for longer recording time, just understand that the longer recording times = the lower the quality of the recording.

Sound but no picture
Your player has several outputs and you might want to start with the basic Video Audo Left Right output first.
Set your with your plazma to see if you can change the input types to accept the video and audio input which will probably be labeled AV 1, AV 2 and so on.
My guess is that you have it set for Component Red Blue Green which his a high def (just before HTMI) and requires a separate audio cable. Your player, depending on the age of the unit, probably will not have Red Blue Green picture output.
Next if you have an HTMI output from your player hook that to your Plazma in the HDMI 1 position and select it on the TV's setting. Audio and Video are both carried in the HDMI cable.
Good luck, my name is Eric Kirkhuff
Toshiba d-vr600 record without viewing the whole tape
Unless both units has stated high speed transfer capabilities I think you have to do them one at a time and watch the entire video.
There are some units that are one unit for vhs to dvd. Panasonic is known to have some units but you are going to probably have to hunt for one. It will clearly state that it transferred compressed or highspeed.
DVD player does not read discs anymore
the Laser is most likely defective. most likly it will need replacement. There is no correction that can made to correct the problem except to that of a replacement of the laser
System Error
FYI...the best suggestion I've seen is to hold the channel up and play buttons simutaneously....thereby causing the machine to return to the "factory initialized" state. So far so good for me. We'll see. photog1
Dvd not recording
Try some Verbatim. They work in almost everything.
Also, some recorders record only +R, or only -R discs. Make sure you have the right ones.
Maxells that are made in Japan are the good ones. Not the ones made
in Taiwan. TDK isn't among our favorites either. If the TDKs work in
computer, you may have to watch them in computer too. If they won't
record in recorder, they probably won't play in it either
Problem after recording for vcr to dvd
Sounds like the recorded DVD needs finalising. On the D-vr35b model you can do this by pressing the menu button, then select Disc Manager, then finalise. I assume that the method on your D-vr4 recorder will be the same or similar.
