I plug in my DVD player and I get nothing, not

You have a power supply problem, if the cord is detachable from the player make sure it is snug tight, next pull the cover off and follow the cord to the power supply board to see if the fuse is blown, the other thing I come across is a bad capacitor near power transistor but this will require some technical know how. One final thought, check your unit on another wall receptacle.

Get video but not audio..

It's either cables not connected correctly, or the TV that you are connecting it to is muted or the audio source isn't correct (for example running thru an external audio system). Try connecting it to another TV in the house and if it works, then you'll know if it is or if it's not the DVD player itself. Also try a different audio cable. If it's RCA plugs (typically, the older style with Yellow, Red, and White colors on the connections), it's odd for them to fail, but not sure the connections you have.

Say Bad or no

It means that the player can't read the disk. This is caused by the lens from the reading head - it's full of dirt. To clean it you will have to dismantle the player to access the reading head - in there use a can of compressed air to blow away most of the dirt and a q-tip to gently wipe the rest.
Or you could use a cleaning disk but it will be a much rougher process with lower quality results.

Often the cause is wear and tear. The glides become worn or the spindle motor begins to slows or the laser lens has become scratched.

Dvd player will not turn on

hello. Begin by testing the wall outlet where you have this dvd player plugged in. Make sure that the outlet is live by plugging something else in there, like a blow dryer or a radio. Joe

Incorrect disc messageToshiba SD 3980

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. It seems that you require a lens cleaning disc for your DVD Player as the lens might have become dirty. Please try to use the Lens cleaning Disc, if that wont resolved the issue then you have to open the unit and clean the Lens with a Q-Tip dipped in Alcohol. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Unit will not turn on.

hi, have you tried changing the fuse in the plug if you have not tried this yet then give that a try first but then if you still have no joy then with the dvd player unplugged take the case off and check if their is an internal fuse inside this is usually by where the mains wire goes into the back of the dvd player.

Only remove the casing if you have no warranty left on the dvd player else doing this will void the warranty.

Remember you are dealing with something electrical so never take the case off whilst it is plugged in if their is no fuse inside then their isnt much you can do unless you have electrical testing equipment.

The problem with getting these repaired is that its cheaper to buy a new dvd player than pay some one to repair it for you.

Make sure all the air vents are clean and free from dust as this can cause you problems and cause it to over heat and blow the board.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

When I plug the unit in and try to turn it on,

The internal fuse is blown.

It may be a replaceble glass cartridge fuse, or a fuse soldered to the power board.

Unplug, remove top cover, check and replace fuse. Radio Shack has reasonable coverage of fuses.

But - fuses usually blow for a reason. It could have been a power surge; it could be an internal failure. If the new fuse blows, it needs professional replair. Many of these are so cheap to make that it doesn't pay to repair them - replace it if the repair estimate is over 1/2 the replacement cost.
