The tubes in the projection set among other things need: 200 volt screen source, filament voltage and high voltage.

Note that if set for example has a loss of vertical or horizontal sweep this will be detected and the tubes will be shut off to prevent the tubes from getting a burn mark on their screens.

It is a convergence circuitry failure. You can fix it yourself if you have some basic skills on soldering and desoldering parts on the board. If yes, click here and I will assist you further.

Intermittent problems on this type of TV are often because of cracked solder joints on the circuit board. They can be hard to see. When the TV gets warm, parts on the board expand and move by tiny amounts, sometimes with the right amount of expansion or vibration from the speakers, the broken solder joint looses connection and the unit shuts down. When things cool-off, the contact can be made again all by itself and everything fine until it happens again. Given the random nature of your problem, this is a suspected problem. Often it is the solder around the lead of a large component which is mounted to a heatsink.

Needs the convergence ICs replaced, possibly a few resistors, possibly a fuse/link or two.

Pull the three connectors to the yokes on the convergence board. If the set powers up, it's a good chance the STK392-110's need to be replaced. I fixed one today, and it has been running for 6 hours now.

Hello,

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony ,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer , Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergence repair kit with instructions from the links below.
ebay.com, shopjimmy.com

Hope this will help in solving the problem,,,,,

You need a new projector bulb. Google up your model and buy the best warranteed one you can find. Buy a "caged assembly" and not just a bare bulb.

Then unplug your tv and get a screwdriver. Follow your model's instructions and just snug down the electrical screws. Do not overtighten them.

Then consult your manual on how to reset the lamp timer so it knows you put a new bulb in and fires up from the first try.

Treat yourself because you've just saved yourself a trip from a repairman!!

Hello,

firstly, check your TV settings and to confirm if the timer is on or not. The timer might be the reason your TV turns off frequently.

If the timer is not on, then the timer is not the cause of the problem.

There are two reasons why your TV keeps turning off, 1) could be the on/off button. The button my be popping of at interval, that is, it may have worn out and not hooking well. 2) could be over heating. The heat sink maybe dusty.

Either way, the solution is quite simple. The on/off button simply toggles a low voltage circuit that powers your TV. If it is dusty, it may complete the electrical circuit and send a false signal.

A heat sink may be dusty and unable to dissipate heat. Over temp protection may be switching the TV off.

Allow the TV cool, open the TV back cover and clean the dust off the circuit boards. You can use a paint brush to remove the dust from the TV board.

Good luck.

Probably, you'll just need the audio and video cables separately. Most DVD Players still have Component video (one cable with 3 video plugs on each end and the two channel (red and white) RCA audio. Your TV also has an AV input (one cable with a single RCA plug on each end - usually yellow for video, plus the audio cable) and S-video.

The component video is your best choice with modern DVD players if you can't use the HDMI port.

I hope this helps.

It shouldn't be the convergence chips. You may have blown a pico fuse on the power board.
You should be able to safely remove the convergence IC's and try the tv without them as they only do image correction.

the prism is off balance or some bulb burning out, and you might need to replace parts. this would require a tv repairman, it is not an easy thing to do, looking at 200 to 400 repair.

Here are my own instructions----WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ADJUST THE GREEN!

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} Toshiba entry to adjust

With the set on press MUTE on the remote.

Then press and HOLD mute for several seconds and while still holding it on the remote press Menu on the front of the set.

A (S) should appear in the upper right corner of the screen. (It means you are in the Service mode)

Press menu again on the front of the set

7 on the remote will call up the convergence grid

3 on the remote will change the color to adjust from red to green to blue(do not adjust GREEN)

You navigate the grid with 2, 4, 6, and 8 buttons.

To stop the cursor from blinking so you can adjust at any point use the 5 button—to move again use the 5 button.

When you finish you exit by hitting 7 on the remote again.

Sometimes you have to try a few times to get into the menu—I have had my problems but once in it is easy.

Let me know if this information was helpful and if you have ANY questions or need advice let me know.
