I need to replace the lenticular screen on the

This is very difficult and delicate work. You should have a clean sheet to put them on and use gloves when you do it... Also why do you not have a lenticular that properly matches your screen size? Usually they are made for specific screens, and if they don't line up just right your picture is going to be off. I have never heard of anyone needing to "cut one down to size" before... that sounds like a very bad scenario.
Thanks

I got a toshiba tv and cracked the screen on it

pigdigger,

I have bad news for you, the total cost for the three screens you will need will be about $290.00. They can be obtained from http://www.encompass.com . Here are the part #s: Fresnel 23311898 $80.00, Lenticular 23311897 $120.00 and Protector 23311863 $90.00.

Installation is straight forward. Generally you have to remove the back top cover with the mirror attached. Then check under the bezel on the front, below the screen, for several screws. Remove the screen and lay it flat on the floor. Remove the screen hold in screws or clips. Remove the screen.

Assemble the new screens. Make sure they are in the correct order. Protector (on outside), Lenticular in the middle and the Fresnel on the inside. You will need to secure the screens together. Black cloth tape works well around the perimeter. Reinstall the screen into the frame and reassemble the unit. This should complete the job.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

I moved the TV about a foot and now I get no

Try thisthought...If you moved it the bulb my have broken its filament. With gloves, cotton, remove the bulb and check with a continuity tester or DMM to see if the filiment is showing a closed circuit. Do not touch the bulb with an uncloven hand. The grease from even a finger print will break it. If you clean the bulb use acetone and let dry a long time before reinstalling. That is an external problem though, It sounds to me that the internal filemnt is K-PUT.

Hi,
Since tv is 1999 model and most likely it got problem of dried up electrolytic capacitors in EDS/NEW OSD module that is located on signal board (inputs and tuner board). Replace all capacitors on that module to solve the issue.
Capacitors replacement need soldering work with proper tools and if you feel uncomfortable doing so, ask local tv tech to hep you out.

When we turn our tv

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa.This is happening because the TV's power supply board is overheating. It occurs either due to cooling fan failure or due to swollen/bulged capacitors on the power supply board. Usually, it's the capacitors that go bad and needs to be replaced. The capacitors will cost you not more than $5-10.
Also check the cable connectors to the Lamp & ballast.
Note-- Please make sure to turn off and unplug the TV for at least 1 hour (this will drain off current from all components especially capacitors) before you perform any repairs. Also note that the TV consists of very high voltages even when it is in OFF condition, so please be careful.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

My unit has never been repaired, however from what

If you have a good low wattage soldering iron ~ 45W (available at radio shack) you can perform the repair yourself, and this will most likely take care of the entire issue.

I like to remove the board that the IC’s are on so that I can unsolder the connections and clean then up using solder wick (this is also available from radio shack). Removing the board is not a real issue as the connectors are all labeled with an alpha number, so that you can connect them back real easy. There are three in the middle towards the front that I like to mark with a sharpie as they are the red green and blue convergence coil connections (they are all the same size in a row). Just mark them with slashes, like I, II, III, or something like that. If you mix them up it is not a big issue, you can test swapping them around until the picture lines up.

Please be sure to remove the entire white heat sink compound on the heat sink and apply an even coating over the back of the new IC’s. You should also bolt them down before you solder them in so that you have them at the correct height.

There are two very large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink.

The IC’s are large and black, you cannot miss them. They will usually have an STKXXX-XXX number on them.

This repair from a good technician will normally run from $250.00 - $300.00, and sometimes more depending on your area.

There are several schools of thought on the replacement of parts and I firmly believe that you get what you pay for, so don’t buy the cheapest IC’s that you can find. One company I worked for tried this and it only caused more work for the technicians, as we had to replace them with the more expensive ones in the end. I would think that you should be able to find these for around $60.00 each. If you can find the exact
Hitachi part, or Sanyo, even though the numbers on the front are the same, and they look exactly like the $10.00 ones, they are better and more reliable.

I usually order my parts from Andrews Electronics in
California, they will have the OEM components that you will need.
Their site is http://www.andrewselectronics.com/welcome.aspx
And their phone number is a 24-Hour Order Desk: (800) 274-4666
I recommend the phone order so you can talk to the person about the different types of IC’s that are available.

You can also try http://www.tvrepairkits.com/ , I have not tried them yet, but they do carry OEM or better parts.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
If I have helped you, please help me, and rate this suggestion the highest FixYa rating. (Two Thumbs Up)
Please Note: If you can not rate this post with the highest rating, then please do not leave any rating. I am doing this for free and I do not think that any rating other that the best is needed.
If you need further assistance please comment to this post and I will try to help you further.
