I have a Toshiba 43 inch projection TV. Six

More than likely, as the tuning is governed by a remote control function, it is a dodgy remote control.
Try putting the remote control out of the room.
Hope this helps.

Red is not focusing correctly,

Your TV have failed convergence circuit. Two convergence IC's have to be replaced in order to fix this issue. I would strongly recommend professional help with it and repair should cost you no more than $300 done by professional. You can try to do it by yourself only if you have good soldering experience , know how to test passive components (like resistors and PICO fuses that surrounding those IC's and some of them could be bad as well). IC's are attached to big aluminum heat radiator and easy to locate. They have marking similar to: "STK - 392-120" or something like this.
Best regards.

Do the heat sinks have to be desoldered out for

Yes----These are not the most easy sets to do this on---you will find on the bottom of the board 4 metal tabs for each heat sink---you have to unsolder them and all the pins on each chip------

The real problem is when you replace the chips (remember to put heat sink grease on the new ones) you have to put them back and get all 18 pins from the chip and the 4 pins from the heat sink to go into the board cleanly---

With both heat sinks and chips removed---check all the identical resistors around them---most are 1.8 ohm ----if you miss any of them you are going to have the same problem even if you change the chips--they can be checked like checking a fuse--no reading means open.

When I do these sets I usually put the Chip and heat sink that is towards the front in first---once it is in hold it in place and tilt the chassis up and solder the heat sink tabs in to hold it there--do the same with the rear heat sink and chip and then carefully solder all the pins on both chips in-----it is very important that all the pins on the new chips are perfectly straight or you will have fun getting them and heat sinks back in.

It is also a good idea to clean the bottom of the board where the chips were soldered in with acetone or denatured alcohol before you solder the new ones in--I suggest also using liquid solder flux before you solder all the pins in.

If you have success let me know and I can tell you how to get into the TECH menu which allows fine adjustment of the convergence ALL OVER THE SCREEN.

I am here to help people.

Toshiba 43HX71 projection TV Convergence problem

Since the set seems to correct itself when "cool", I would first try resoldering the convergence IC area. Quite often, the convergence problems start with poor connections that eventually cause the ICs to fail. Rather than spending money on a repair kit, try the resoldering first. I will verify the kit contents in the meantime.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

The convergence needs to be repaired. The 50H71 convergence kit works in your model as well. You can get the kit at the following link which contains the parts and instructions.

My TV is showing a double picture

If the picture looks like a 3D one, the problem is a convergence issue. This can be as simple as poor connections at the pins of the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder you can probably fix this yourself. Please note that there are potentially dangerous high voltages inside the set even when unplugged.

If you wish to attempt the repair, please update this and I will provide additional details and instructions.

Toshiba 42RV500E sound issue

This is a known issue with this TV. The following might resolve it: Check Mute and Volume: Ensure that the TV is not muted and that the volume is set appropriately. Sometimes accidental button presses can lead to muted sound or low volume. Inspect External Speakers: If you're using external speakers, verify their connections. Loose cables or faulty speakers can cause sound issues. Test Different Inputs: Connect a non-HDMI device (such as a DVD player) to the TV. Observe if the sound distortion occurs. If it doesn't, the problem might be related to the HDMI signal from your Virgin box. HDMI Troubleshooting: If the issue persists with the DVD player over HDMI, consider the following: HDMI Cable: Check the HDMI cable for damage or loose connections. Virgin Signal: Contact Virgin to inspect the signal/lines and replace the box if necessary. Mainboard Replacement (if needed): If the sound distortion persists, it could be due to a faulty sound processor chip on the TV's mainboard. In this case, consider replacing the mainboard. Change batteries on my toshiba se-r0001 remote

  1. Locate the Battery Cover: Look for the battery cover on the back of the remote control. It is usually a small compartment that can be easily opened.
  2. Remove the Battery Cover: Depending on the design, there may be a latch, screw, or sliding mechanism to secure the battery cover. Use your fingers or a small screwdriver to open the compartment.
  3. Remove Old Batteries: Take out the old batteries from the battery compartment. Pay attention to the orientation of the batteries, so you know how to insert the new ones correctly.
  4. Check Battery Polarity: Take note of the positive (+) and negative (-) signs inside the battery compartment. Make sure to insert the new batteries with the correct polarity to match these markings.
  5. Insert New Batteries: Place the new batteries into the battery compartment, ensuring they are properly aligned with the correct polarity. Press them down gently to make sure they are secure.
  6. Replace Battery Cover: After inserting the new batteries, close the battery compartment cover securely. If it has a latch or screw, make sure it is fastened properly.
  7. Test the Remote: Point the remote at the device it controls (such as a Toshiba TV) and test whether it responds to your commands. If the remote is working correctly, you have successfully replaced the batteries.
  8. Dispose of Old Batteries: If the old batteries are no longer usable, make sure to dispose of them properly. Many communities have designated recycling locations for batteries.
