I have the same problem here as well, except that it has been happening so long that now it doesn't get completely clear. The picture was great at one time :-(

try poshioning you antana.
point small end tord a knowen trasmiter location.
if un knowen call your local brod cast station.

if your high up in the mountians.
forget it at this time thay dont have retrans systems yet.
like poeple in the uper colorado mountans thay have to yous sat for now.

Your TV has gone crazy on you because your convergence IC's have gone bad.

These IC's operate at a very high temp, and usually only last 4-5 years.
If you remove the back of the set, you will want to look for the BIGGEST heatsink in there, on that heatsink, you will see 2 lage IC's , probably STK392-110, or STK392-120's or something close...regardless - you can go on ebay to order the new ones, but MAKE SURE they are Genuine SANYO IC's and not counterfiet cheapies. the cheap ones may only last 2 months..
You will also need some "Heat transfer paste" - you can pick this up at radio shack.

Once you remove the old IC's, test all the large resistors near them.. pull one side of the resistor out of the board so you can check it out of circuit. they will usually have the value in Ohms, printed directly on the resistor, but you may have to use the resistor color code to find out what value they are....However, usually if there is any damage, the resistor will look like it has been HOT or fried. replace the IC's and any bad resistors, and you should be good to go. If after replacing the IC's and any defective resistors, the convergence is still bad, make sure to use a multimeter to check ALL fuses on the boards, --- sometimes when the IC's go, they will take out a fuse to the convergence power supply. If you find any bad fuses, replace them accordingly!

If this STILL doesnt make it look right, you will need to find out how to get into service mode and do a coarse convergence adjustment. This information can be found in the Service manual for your set. If you dont have one you can download it at manualuniverse.com

If that noise is cause by a leaking CRT, I would call Toshiba and ask them nicely to fix it. A leaking CRT it may be a fire hazzard and they will hopefully willing to do the repair even if the TV set is out of warranty.

yes you can run in composit s vido mode and you also need to set up your laptop screen seting to composit out mode.

Remove conector P807, if set stays on the replacment IC's are bad. also check D428=5035a and Q371=2sa9335.

It will be 11 years next month that I've had my Toshiba 55H55 Cinema Series and have the same problem every now and then, if you haven't already done so, go to the picture settings and scrolling down to conversion and it will take you through 3 steps of adjustments,there is a white cross in the middle of the screen line up the red first and then the blue, it will then take you to a screen with numbers, ID the clearest number and exit out, you should have a clear picture again. It sounds like on of the convergence ICs took the deep six. These are on the Sig/Conv PCB, attached to large heat sinks. P/N STK392-110 (probably) When changing these out, check the power resistors next to the chips... chances are one of the resistors is open.

my remote will not exit from menu

check out any other capacitor blown or bulged up near to the ic chip .

Did you check the supply fuses to the convergence ICs? Did you check the output resistors
then i would start by replace the convergence ic first.

my tv did the same thing except it is a 57in hdtv

Replace the Convergence amplifiers. Mine did the same. It was like watching a 3D movie without the glasses. It is not hard to do for someone who knows their way around a circuit board repair. Otherwise call a reputable service shop.

Hi, The problem lies within the unit. You have a hardware failure within the board. Most likely the power supply board needs to be repaired or replaced. I hate to give you this bad news, but the cost to have the power supply board repair or replace will exceed the value of your rear projection television. Of course it all depends how much you want to invest in the television. Sorry, but I wish I had good news for you. Just being honest. Thanks, Mike

its definately a power supply issue. You may want to get a service manual for your model as it will have the info to trouble shoot the standby and start up voltages. You can get a manual emailed to you at the following link and they will help you trouble shoot the set. Heres the link.

the yokes need adjusting (upside down writting) and the CRTs need alignment

When you say messed up do you mean the convergence is out? please explain a little more detail as to what you are seeing. Also when its messed up if you press the menu button on the remote does the menu look good?

I had this happen. The power cord in the back of the T.V. ended up being loose. I fixed that and have'nt had a problem since.

did your TV just cut off in the middle of watching it and it want come back on. My red light beside the power button flashes also.
