This set is prone to only two real issues--one is the Hyper board which will not cause this issue.The other issue is convergence---only way to prove if it is your problem is to gain access to the two STK-392-110 (SHOULD USE THAT) AND unsolder all pins on both--each has 18 pins.With them out of the circuit if set comes on (will look bad) one of the chips is shorted--they are also protected by pico fuses--and you will have the same problem if one of the special fuses are bad.There are two of these fuse devices (not a glass fuse) for the convergence and they usually are 5 amp. I would look for the fuses first and if either is bad both chips have to be replaced at same time.
This may be a convergence issue but it is difficult to determine with that description. Watch this video and see if it will help you determine if you have a convergence problem or possible something else.

It uses 3 picture tubes that rarely fail--Let me know what is wrong--most common issue is convergence--often mistaken for a bad tube.See some attached photos to see if they look like your problem.No two sets will look exactly the same with this problem but from the photos you should know if this is your problem or not.
Check for solder bridge along the convergence ic's. Check low value resistors in the circuit. Make sure you have your +27 and -27 vcc going to the ic's.

1)Make sure the ventilation slots are clear of dust and debris. 2)listen for odd sounds from within the housing. snaps,crackles and pops are not good sounds. 3)Make sure the fans are running 4)Remove the lamp,following the instructions in your manual. Do not touch any part of the glass lamp!!!!!!! One sign of a bad lamp is a blackened base of the arc chamber(the tube inside the lamp.) There is really no way to test arc lamps except send it to the mfr.
Some of your electronics parts were worn out. Like capacitors may have leaks that need to be replace as use stated that the word focus were very clear it means that your tube is still okay. or you adjust the focus knob on the compartment. To tune in the 3 colors.
Your hypermodule has gone out and will need to be repaired. You can google for the capacitor locations - I beleive its 11 of them. This is a tricky repair since the caps are small. If you do it yourself I would advise using small cam corder capacitors instead of the SMD type that installed. This will make it easier to replace. You can also get a complete kit with instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com or similar sites.
If the TV looks zig zag or scrambled and its moving aroudn the screen the hypermodule has failed.
If however it looks 3D or warped and is not moving around the convergence is the issue. You can get DIY repair kits including all parts, instructions, and support from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.
This sound familar. it sounds like the hypermodule problem. idealy the best way to repair this is the past was to replace the hypermodule. but they are hard to find. Next idea is to repair the board. the way to do this is too replace 11 micro capacitors. But soldering these can be difficult and labor intensive. if you get a tv shop to do this find a qualified tech. prices differ on average this repair should cost about 400.
The convergence circuit has failed in the tv. These are the big STK chips on the circuit board. It typically costs $300 to fix at a TV service center. Requires replacement of two STK chips, some resistors, some fuses and then re-alignment of the CRTs within the service menu.
If you have proper soldering tools and can download the service manual, it is possible to do the repair yourself.
If you do not have any electronic background whatsoever, I do not recommend a person to attempt it.
