It may well play NTSC disks but it won't convert the standard to PAL or whatever your system is. Check your TV will display NTSC 525line pictures with 30HZ frame rate.
I would guess it is either overheating, or someone has a Samsung next door and your remotes are the same. :>/
For overheating, go around the back and side vents with a vacuum cleaner with the small brush attachment on it.
no there is no magic button, I would replace battery and if that did not work buy a universal remote or Toshiba remote. they are readily available on line.
Your EEPROM has some bad files on it. It's an expensive IC to chance if you have the equipment and knowledge to replace it, other option is replace the main board

Anyway, the fault should be it its main power supply board.
Here is a board, it's from Canada but with shipping is not to bad priced at $60. I know nothing about the seller so it's possible you could get a defective board. I assume your missing the ps_on signal from the main and that's why the set won't turn on
