Why does it keep turning off?

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Blinking codes details to many popular brand TVs are given. Surf the site with patience. If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.

Hi,

If you can't adjust the convergence in all directions for all colours, then you need to replace your convergence ICs (integrated circuits). This can cost $300 - 400 to have the work done professionally, however it is possible to buy a self-repair kit. The kit for your TV can be bought here:

http://www.tvrepairkits.com/xcart/home.php?cat=3988

This kit costs $69.99 and includes a step-by-step photo instruction guide and the supplier states: "You do not need to have any prior electronic repair experience to use this kit."

This kit includes everything you need to complete the self repair including details of how to dis-assemble the TV, locate the convergence ICs and adjust the convergence following installation.
De-soldering of the original ICs is required and soldering in of the new ones, however they also provide instructions on soldering and offer email, phone or live chat support to assist you in completing the repair.

Many people have bought these kits and fitted them sucessfully saving themselves several hundred dollars. If you buy one, I would advise a little soldering practice before tackling your TV.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
BElectric

TV cuts off w/o warning & power red light

This may seem like silly answers but...
1. Be sure the power supply is plugged in all the way and that it is not damaged anywhere on the cord all the way up to the TV.
2. Be sure the Sleep Timer is not activated. You wouldn't believe how many times this is actually the case.
If these end up not the case then it is very possible that the safety circuitry in your TV's board could be going out. The TV is shutting it down due to it finding a problem with the circuitry in the TV. Most of the time people choose to replace the TV with a newer model as it is just cheaper to replace it than to have it repaired. This usually only happens in older TV's although I have seen it in TV's as little as 4 years old.

Hello. Your Toshiba is suffering from old age. Let me explain. The circuit boards in all electronic equipment relies on solder. Years ago, solder was 50% lead. Today, for safety reasons and due to legislation, that lead content has been drastically reduced. The primary result is that modern circuit boards have a much shorter life expectancy than the old ones did. Your TV, as you describe, went through the aging process gradually and has now "kicked" the proverbial bucket for all intents and purposes. Repairing all of that deteriorated circuitry would be prohibitive cost wise. Start shopping around for a replacement. The new ones are better, cheaper and digital! Joe

TP50F60/TP50F61 not working; no picture or sound;

Any malfunction associated with a flashing light usually indicates a circuit problem or defective component. Unfortunately, the days of taking off the back cover of your TV and replacing a defective tube or fuse are long gone. Proper servicing will require troubleshooting procedures that can only be performed by a qualified electronic repair facility or professional television repair person. Ask for an estimate and a realistic appraisal of whether the set can be adequately fixed. Depending on the age and condition of your TV it may not be cost effective to repair.
