Start by connecting playstation to tv. Then go to source and you should see any devices that are plugged into tv, if you don't see the devices you should see the various input options like hdmi 1, hdmi 2 ect, just select the 1 that has the playstation plugged in, or go to each in turn with the playstaion turned on until you see the playstation screen. Your external hard drive is probably formatted in Microsoft's NTFS format. Older TVs do not recognize this file system. Try to connect to the TV a Hard Drive formatted in the FAT32 file system. Main system control memory IC fault. Check and replace it. Before replacing, try a hard reset to this set, and check. There are two types of reset to TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so.
