Not sure how a TV made it's way into Apple Mac laptop problems but hey, stuff happens. Take the batteries out of the remote and see if that sorts it.

If you do not have an input button on the TV then you need to get a remote. I have owned a lot of toshibas. Use the channel down button on the tv and keep hitting it untill you get down to the last channel. after that it should start cycling thru you inputs. Good luck to you.

Possible that the codes for the universal remote does not match. Please check with the manual and see if there is an auto scan. if so activate and see if the remote mates with the set so as to work the function.

Programming method:

To program your universal remote to control your components

using the Direct Code Entry Method, follow the steps below.

1* Manually turn on the component

you want the remote to control.

2* Locate the enclosed Code Lists.

Find the list for the component you

wish to program. Find your

component's brand. You will see a

listing of four-digit codes for each

brand. If your brand isn't listed, use

one of the Code Search methods to

program the remote control. (Refer

to pages 7 and 9 for Manual and

Auto Code Search methods.)

3* Press and hold the component key

(TV, VCR•DVD, SAT•CBL) you

wishto program. The illuminated

ON•OFF key turns on and

remains on. If you release the

component key at any time

during the Direct Code Entry

procedure, the illuminated

ON•OFF key blinks four times,
and the process is exited.

4* While holding down the

component key, consult the Code

Lists for the four-digit code that

corresponds to your component's

brand and use the number keys

(0-9) on the keypad to enter it.

While you are pressing the

numbers, the illuminated

ON•OFF key turns off.

5* After the fourth number is

entered, the illuminated ON•OFF

key turns on. At this time, release

the component key. If the

illuminated ON•OFF key turns

off, you have entered a valid code

and have followed the correct

procedure for Direct Code Entry.

If you enter a code number that is not

in the Code Lists or you do not follow

all of the steps for Direct Code Entry,

Hello.Theres a loose connection in your CRT board of your television.The problem is in vertical section maybe the vertical output IC is cold solder.Thats why harizontal lines appear in the screen of your TV.Your picture is good the problem is in the CRT board at the vertical section.

Make sure your closed-captioning is turned off. You probably have captions set for "text" mode now. It's easy to do this because on most remote controls there is a single button for caption settings, and you can hit the button without realizing it. Once you turn off the captions the box should be gone.

Sounds like horizonal output transistor could be over heating. There could be other problems. But I would start there. You can find the part number on the schematic inside the set. If you change it yourself don't forget to use the included insulater. Part should cost between 15 & 20 dollars. You will need make & model # of set at electronic parts store.

It is easy to reset your Toshiba set to factory defaults. Enter each options, ie, picutre, sound etc, and press "Reset" button on your remote control to reset each options to factory settings. The default factory settings for Video is DVD. Ok.

look for electrolytic capacitor c407 in vertical section 100uf 35v.

yes a universal remote will work but you may need to try several to find one that will, not all work to select your inputs. first try changeing the channel below channel 2, thats were most tv inputs are located (accessed)..

These lines are cause by defective capacitors in the vertical section of the TV. No adjustment will work unless the capacitors are replace. The values of the capacitors are between 1uF, 10uF or possibly a 47uF.
I do not have the service manual at this moment but you can google it by the model number of your TV.

Does the outlet still work? The storm may have tripped the circuit breaker for that outlet only.
Another option is there was a surge of power and you weren't using a surge protector. That can overload a capacitor and you will need to get a technician to fix it

that doesn't have to do with digital signal, just quality, if your tv shows the channels as 4.1 or 4-1 : example... then it IS digital!
