Panasonic Panafax U-788 Error Code 021
You may have had a power failure. A technician must reset the fuser memory, or replace the fuser (bad lamp or thermister)
OR just a bad toner cartridge (no kidding) on the uf-788

(and waste hours of time, be put on hold 25 times, told your account number isnt valid, theyre having a glitch in the system, its not their problem, youll have to ring back later, confirm your adress, D.O.B.- Ph no. -credit card no.- tax file no.- and your third cousins 2nd wifes stepsons- ex girlfriends- brothers 4th grade teachers middle name) and ask to have the line checked

GETTING COM AS 634 INSTEAD OF OK STATUS
Hi,
This is what the code means:
Redial was not successful due to no response from the called station or wrong number dialed.
Note: If busy tone was not detected, the machine will only redial once.
So the your fax machine is getting no response from the fax you're calling.
Hope that helps...

Vertical lines on copies received
Run a copy of something through your machine. IF the lines show up on your copy, and also lines on your incoming faxes, then your drum cartridge is bad.
Replace the drum cartridge with a new one and you should be back in business.
If you have any other questions, please post again.
I hope I have helped you with your question.
Please remember to post a rating if I have helped you.
Have a good day.

You can find that option in Service Mode 6 (Ram Initialize).
Hit Function + 7
Hit Monitor 4 times, then " * "(star)
Press 6 for Ram Initialize
Option 14 (All job clear) is the one you are looking for.
Hit enter and it will run for a few seconds and reboot itself.

Cannot make long distance calls
I can only think that you have 'least cost routing' or 'call-trunking' from somebody. Basically any number that is called will automatically be routed through a network other than BT - the main reason for this is to save money on calls (typically 15%)
If they have a problem with their server/trunking that would be the problem.
Plug a different telephone into the phone socket your fax is plugged into. If you can make a call long distance on it, the fax is at fault, if you can't contact your telelphone line provider and check the settings on your 'Least cost routing'.
Some LCR services are appalling.

PRINTING PROBLEMS
Have you tried a New Drum Cartridge?
It sounds like the drum cartridge is bad. Do you know how old the drum cartridge is or how many copies are on it?
If you take the drum cartridge out (Do not tip this upside down or touch the drum) you should be able to see a shiny long cylinder called the drum underneat the unit. Does it look like its covered with toner?
If it is covered with toner, then the cartridge needs to be replaced and that will take care of your problem with the dark copies.
If its not covered, then it could be a dirty optics which would require for your machine to be serviced. But 99 out of 100 times its the drum cartridge.
Hope this helps.
good luck.

How to not print faxes after hours
simply go into modes Fax/telephone and select telephone mode only instead of fax/telephone mode there is really no way to set the fax to not take faxes after hours automatically as it is designed to receive telephone calls and faxes as the machine reconizes fax tone.
the only disadvantage to doing this is you will have to change mode on a daily basis back to Fax/tel Mode during work hrs and back to telephone mode after hrs or simply uplug the phone cord going to the fax after hours

Fuser thermistor fuser unit or lpc board
the fuser thermistor makes contact with the heat roller. Normally they are in the middle of the roll.
If you are experiencing a fuser error. Most likely the upper fuser will need to be replaced.
Boards on faxes are mounted on the sides and base part of the frame
