Can I change from Windows XP to Windows 8 on my current Systemax hard drive

Yes you can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 8, depending of the age and specs of your computer it might run slow, you will need a minimum of 2Gb of memory to run Windows 8 at a decent pace.

Restore factory settings without disk

when you first power on the machine hit F11 (for most machines) on the keyboard repeatedly until the recovery screen pops up. Click on advanced options, click system recovery, then click OK when prompted. the recovery process will begin and take about 25 minutes on a 5400rpm hard drive. then you must reinstall everything that isn't factory. NOTE: THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA THAT ISN'T PREINSTALLED. AFTER THE RECOVERY, YOU MUST INSTALL THE INTERNET SOFTWARE, VIRUS SOFTWARE, ALL UPDATES (THERE'LL BE A LOT!!), AND PERSONAL SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE. BACK UP ALL DATA BEFORE YOU BEGIN. ONCE THE RECOVERY PROCESS STARTS, IT CANNOT BE STOPPED, OR THE SYSTEM WILL GET CORRUPTED. :( Hopefully this will help. P.S. Give this recovery process about a day to get it over with. Don't rush it for best results, and use pc decrapifier to remove all the bloatware and trial ware installed by hp on your pc.

Sleep mode is a convenient power-saving feature used on both laptops and desktop computers. This feature powers down hard disks, monitors, wireless devices and any other power-consuming peripherals without turning the unit completely off and necessitating a reboot. Sleep mode can prevent battery drain if using a laptop or mobile device while away from the power supply. This mode is useful when quick access to a computer is needed, but can be irritating if the sleep mode takes a long time to come back from. It is simple to turn sleep mode off, based on the operating system being used. Go to the "Start" button, then click on "Control Panel." In the control panel screen, click "System and Maintenance," then click on "Power Options." This brings you to the "Select a power plan" page. From the "Select a power plan" page, select the option that says "Change plan settings." This changes the settings on the currently selected plan. Select the "Change advanced power settings" option. Click "Sleep" and then click on "Sleep After" to expand it. If using a laptop or mobile PC, click "On battery" and "Plugged in," then select the "Never" option. This turns off sleep mode for both battery and AC use. If you are using a desktop computer, click "Setting," click the arrow and then click "Never" to turn off sleep mode. Click "OK," then click "Save changes" to save the modification.
