Possible the red gun is going bad In the CRT. Would need hooked up to a CRT tester to find out.

Hi I have come across dual speed recorders before and rather than type out the alternatives ways of speed setting, I found you a manual which can be downloaded from here: Aiwa VX S135U Operating Instructions Manual by clicking on the green download button, filling in the letters they require and saving the manual to disk. It is in pdf format so you can use the search facility in Adobe Acrobat Reader to find the relevant bit to you. I used "speed" which worked well. Sounds like a power supply or switch problem. Some switches have a brief contact made when turning on so this may be faulty or it could be the switch mode transistor that is borked.

Without viewing the schematic I would have a guess that the electronic switching that selects between television and the AV input if faulty. Use your video to tune to stations or a set top box.

The reason for this is that the video unit uses its own built in tuner for both video and sound and inputs it straight to the TV set.
