I cannot get the plate off the bottom of my dialit
Their not any special tool. It probably stuck because of burned bread or other stuff meld and this blocking the plate to be removed. You can use a plyer and extreem force and even you can use a cutter to cut the plate in some places so it can be removed since you dont need anymore.
However this need a special skill in order to avoid any otherdamage of the toaster.
Good Luck
One of the elements does not work
Inside your toaster there are four heating element plates two in the center and one in left end and one in right end.
Just switch on the toaster without any bread at maximum time and visualy inspect to see which side is becoming red and which not. Then you need to replace the element plates you see that they don't become red.
Remember that the two in center are the same called "CENTER" and the other two on ends are the same called "END"
They can easily be removed if you remove the bottom panel.
Good Luck
I changed the element in my Dualit toaster; still doesn't work
If I understand well the blackened wire is an overheated wire which it is probably but off in one point so no electricity comes to the element anymore.
However overheated wire in you metalic toaster is a very danger thing to have and need to replace all the wires you have noticed that they changed color or not look good contition.
The problem have been caused from a problematic element which is the one you have already replaced.
However you if after you replace the wires you need to inspect the toaster after some time in order to be sure that not any other element causing the problem.
Good luck.
The coils (heating) do not appear to be working

Timer
Unplug toaster and lay toaster on its back. Gently pry the timer knob up and off the front of the toaster and spray the shaft several times with WD-40. Replace the timer knob and manually operate the timer repeatedly, thereby working the WD-40 down the timer shaft. Test the timer to see if it now operates freely. If not, repeat the above steps. Set toaster upright and plug in. This worked for me. If it doesn't work on your toaster, then have it repaired professionally.
Problems with Dualit 20247 2-Slice
It is probably not under warranty. I would advise getting a new one. By the time you send it off and pay the repair and get it back, you will have a repaired toaster will a question mark on when it will go down again. Get a new one same brand.
Dualit Toaster won't heat on either side.
You may have awire that has burned off or the control switch is bad. You can get to their site by typing in "dualit" under google and you will get a lot of information and the web site.

The top red button is the heating element selector.
If you push it to the left, only the left side is going to turn on.
Push it to the right and both of the heating elements will turn on.
Idea behind this comes from the commercial background where you save electricity on using only the elements that you need.
the bottom is simply a timer.

Dualit 20247 2-slice toaster
Hi,
Very often it's simply crumbs in the wrong place.
Unplug it and take it outside. Remove any little drawers you have completely, and brush them out with a stiff brush.
Turn toaster upsidedown, and bang the sides with your flat palm to empty crumbs. Because of the design, this doesn't get everything out, and you may need to do it upright, and upsidedown again.
While upsidedown, press the levers fully down, and agitate them on the bottom stop.
This should remove the crumbs from the electromagnet armature.
This is operates when a flat plate rests on the elecromagnet. If there are crumbs in the way - it wont hold.
If there is still a problem after this, please contact again, or rate so that other may follow the advice given. Thank you.
