External hard drive ejects after computer sleep
Whilst that can be resolved by reconfiguring the Operating System setup - the simplest way that normally resolves such problems is to just unplug the USB lead and replug, when the computer will normally "find" the new hardware. if not, try plugging the lead into a different USB socket. If you have no spares - an inexpensive USB extender can be obtained to provide several USB ports from one of the main USB ports on the computer. I would also advise (beneficial for this and other installed drivers) to get the excellent free IOBIT Driver Booster - it really is free, not like all other free-download driver offerings where you download, install, do a scan and then find you have to pay. In addition, this actually finds missing drivers, as well as updating those you have. Can thoroughly recommend. Just remove the two gaps in following link - as I think this website would otherwise delete full links. http:// www. iobit.com/driver-booster.php
I have a WD my book model WDBAAU0015HBK it has stopped working the light still flashes but computer does not register wd please help
depending on how is attached I think it is disabled by mistake ..so assuming it still has the driver (or run the driver again ) try to run the add new hardware wizard from the control panel ..click on teh already aded and force to find it ..when it does click install ..or go to device manager ..and look for it there..if it is not present click computer right ..and select scan for hardware changes..and will show it uninstalled or disabled..click right on it ..and enable ..another thing to try is to go to bios and select to load optimal factory defaults ..and save changes with F10 ..and restart ..this may bring it in sight too ..I will link the support site for you t read more..sometimes I understood this fault is from a damaged power supply ..(adapter ) ..if it does not provide the correct voltage or the correct current type it will light the LED but not work ..so this can be a case..or ..if you formatted it in a wrong way or in a mac..now is not seen in windows cause it needs a different formatting ..and in this case download the tool from the site and do it again ..

How do I use my WD hard drive to store files so I
Hi:
That's an easy task:
1) Plug your Hd to your laptop and wait until the laptop recognize it as a new drive and assign a new letter to it. If you have a disc use it if your laptop ask for it.
2) Copy all files you want to transfer to the new HD and paste them on it.
That's it.
My external hard drive fell off my bed onto the
Hello,
Well this could be a tough one.
It seems likely that how much experience you have working with hardware as well as how willing you are to work with computer hardware my be a big factor.
Anyway. At this point does the external drive show ANY signs of life? Does it's led come on?
Does the drive seem to come to life? In other words. Can you heard the drive spin up (or spin in general for that matter)?
Also does the drive make any loud clicking sounds? Does the drive make any sounds that it was not making before it fell off the bed and on to the floor? Or is it failing to make any sounds that it always made before it fell off the bed?
Here are a few suggestions:
First consider carefully how valuable the data you wish to retrieve really is to you as opposed to how valuable the drive itself may be to you. For example, is this drive still under warranty?
If you open up the box it will void the warranty. If it is still under warranty they will probably replace it. So this is a serious consideration.
If the drive is no longer under warranty then it is not an issue.
If your drive shows NO signs of life then it is not getting power for some reason. This could be anything from a broken or disconnected wire inside the box to a broken interface printed circuit board.
If the led lights up but the hard drive does not spin up then this could also be anything from a broken or disconnected cable inside the box to a broken interface printed circuit board. It could also be that the drive has suffered catastrophic damage. If it is the later your data is history.
If the drive is making any loud sounds it never made before it is also highly likely that your data is history.
You can open the box your self and check for problems like disconnected or broken cables. Which should be easy to fix.
In any event good luck...
I ;have formatted the WD external drive and
You should not even try to install an operating system on an external drive. Windows looks at the "C" drive and installs programs to "C" drive. You are trying to put it on the "G" drive. You will have too many problems and wish you never had tried. Buy a larger main drive and partition it with two equal partitions. Then "Dual Boot". You will find how to do this on the internet. Just Google "Dual Booting".
Sir,
I have a Lenovo laptop.
If your HARD DRIVE was exposed to a magnetic field, this can happen.
Try a scandisck run.
Boot up in safe mode and run fix disk.
Cannot format my WD 1TB external hard drive
The hard disk is having bad sectors on its first 3000 sectors.the bad sectors are caused by degradation of the platter of the hard disk.OR the factory area of the hard disk has certain files called SMART, G -LIST and other log files.Unless one empties those log files with a good tool , one cant format ones hard disk.
