Ligtning struck a tree in our yard and everything including the digital converter box it was hooked too but the tv won't turn on

This is a difficult question to answer, if you are very lucky it has taken out the fuse only, however in most cases there are parts that are destroyed, to more serious situations where the main board is fried, It will need to be assessed.

HelloReplace the system memory IC. It has been damaged. This IC is a small one, having 8 solder terminals, and wont cost more thatn $4. It can be located very near to the main system IC. Eventhough it is very small, the function of it with the tV circuit when the tV works is great. When replacing it, insist on same type and number. Its number will be printed on its top.I thinks that I've made a clear indication about the fault to your Tv.Please don't hesitate to rate this solution.Best of luck.

HelloThere is a memory IC, a very small one having 8 solder leggs, that stores the channel conditions and all other details of picutre, such color, contrsat, brightness, sharpness etc;. Eventhough it small in size, the function with it when the TV works is great. If this IC ahs got damaged, no memory function will be there. From this memory IC, all data are retrived to the main system IC when we switch ON the set after a switch OFF. When we switch OFF the set, all data at that time, will passed to this memory IC and will be store there. This is a non-volatile type IC [that is even the power to it is switeched OFF, the data stored in it won't lost. And when power comes, the data stored will be retained from it and passes to the main system control IC to process. I think that I've made an idea to you, about how this IC works and how its damage result in working of the TV.This IC can be located very near to the system control IC, direltly soldered to the circuit board. You have to replace it with same type and number. Insist on same type and number [the number will be printed on it], as this is a very critical component. Won't cost more thatn $4. It can be purchased from most of the electronic spare part shops at your town.I think that I've made the problem to your Tv somewhat clear to you.Don't hesitate to rate this solution. Best of luck.

HelloWith a universal remote control, we can't get allthe functions do work as its orginal one. You have to check other codes for Apex, described in its user manual. Check other codes, and see which one will do best to get most functions with the TV. OK.

HelloYour TV is locked.

The Child Lock feature prevents unauthorized viewing of the

television. To activate, press and hold the Function key, and then

press MUTE. you should see a key symbol appear on the screen.

This will lock out all remote functions (except for Standby). To unlock

the TV, press and hold the Function key and press MUTE. This will

Hello

Your TV is locked. Do the following to unlock it.

Apex TVs use a four digit code to control the v-chip. The override code for many models is 6688. Other sets may not have one, or may have a default code of 1225 instead of an override code.

  1. To use the override code:
  2. Hit the MENU key to get to the menus.
  3. Go down to the SYSTEM menu and hit the right arrow on the remote control.
  4. Once in the SYSTEM menu, go to PARENTAL GUIDE. It will ask for your code.
  5. Enter the override code listed above. From here, you can turn on and off different rating restrictions, as well as set a new code.
No matter what the V-chip code is set to, the override code will still work. If you have a blank screen with a red key on the bottom left, simply press the (function or F) button and the mute button at the same time. This will unlock the screen and allow you to view the channel as desiredOK.

Apex AT1314DV, TV/DVD combo.

Hello

You cannot select the TV/DVD now is the present condition. It may be the fault of the microswitch inside it. Just replace all the microswitches on the front panel controls. They are cheap and easly available. Open your combo and resolder one omong the microswitches, and go with it as a sample and buy all, replace all at one time.
Thei might solve your problem. Microswitches are very likly to go faulty in most of the TVs. OK.

The DVD won't open

just took mine apart tonight. your opener on the DVD tray requires a small rubber band. It looks like my rubber band is barely working but doors still open.

IF ANYONE HAS A "NO DISC" MESSAGE, TRY CLEANING THE LASER. The laser is right past the bottom spool, dead in the center. Might require a long q-tip. The top spool does not turn on it's own but requires the bottom spool to turn.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE IT APART:
1.) have some fingernail polish ready to mark wires. Use many diferent colors.
2.) There are probably at least 5 clips to disconnect. I took out around 25 screws to get to the least ammount of work for the DVD player. It really is burried in there.
3.) The central board near the end of the tube is holding residual power. Gives a nice little shock -- even when the tv has been unplugged for a while.
4.) remember to ground yourself out and other precautions. Again: The DVD player is really down deep and requires many wires to be removed to get to it.

I ended up taking off the top board and prying it so that I did not have to cut the tube power wires. The power wires to the tube must be soldered back together. :-)

*Have multiple screw drivers ready.
** Have extensions for your screwdrivers.

I got this tv/dvr used because the last owner couldn't get it working. Looks like a pretty good picture. Even though philips has a DVD at target for 30$, the integration is well worth fixing/replacing. This 5 year old DVD is playing really well while the Philips often die in 6 months for our use.

cheers.
