From what I read on Wacom's site, they are NOT compatible. The Bamboo use a stylus that is different than the nib pens that the Intuos use. The stylus for the Bamboo is more like the stylus you can purchase for smart phones. The Intuos pens are pressure sensitive and have different nibs you can use for different effects and feel. Laptops are much more limited on the supply side for powering USB devices. This is limited by the operating system in the computer. There are some things that you can try such as a shorter cord if the cord is detachable. The cord length affects the voltage and that in turn affects the current. The OS then senses it a drops the connection. This is partly for safety and partly for battery conservation. For some time, that device was not recommended by Apple to be used for that matter. There was a bulletin issued on it but it appears that Apple did not do anything to change the situation.

Using Windows? Open up the Device Manager by right-clicking "This PC/My Computer" and select "Manage". On the left pane, click "Device Manager". Depending of the version of Windows you're running, the tablet could be listed under "Portable Devices" or "Mice and other pointing devices".Once you see it, move that window off to the side so you can still see the entry for your tablet. Now use the tablet as normal until it stops working. If it disappears from the list, you've probably got yourself a wiring/hardware problem. (My tablet's cable eventually developed a bad USB cable from years of moving around/use).Since the tablet itself still recognizes you after it stops responding on the screen, wondering if you may have updated the software/drivers lately (even by accident by clicking an "OK" dialog by rote...) - try "rolling back" the driver to an earlier version. If this is really new, any chance you could use Window's Restore function to go back a snapshot or two to when it did work fine? Always back up your important files (say, documents/designs etc) to another drive before doing anything. Good Luck!

Is it an Intuos3? I had the same issue (only the spot varied). The weird part was that it was caused by the scroll bars on the side being active, even though I wasn't using them. Disable them and see if it helps.
