Oreck Console Air Purifier - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

It sounds like the calibration of the flux capacitor is not properly configured and is not in sync with the intercooler. Your Oreck XL won't function properly until you manually open the exhaust hatch, remove the nuclear power cell and replace the plasma coils. It also would help to wipe off the air filter with a rag.

I tried that solution and it did not work due to the worn bushing. I went on line to CSH incorporated and ordered #534 Open Ventilation Fan & Blower Duty motor. The motor is a ball bearing motor rather than bushing, and is an exact replacement for the Fasco motor on the original. The repair is easy and a cheap repair at cost of about $67 dollars for the motor plus shipping. The unit now works great again.Robert

Soak the filter in soapy water overnight

Depending on what model , when my red light comes on and flashes it usually has something stuck in the cell it can be real small even or lots of build up on cells, when you pull out the cell you can determine if the wires are broken.

They discontinued it. Just go to any aquarium and buy a carbon filter pad and cut it to size. They sell big sizes for under $10 and just stick it in your Oreck Air 5 air purifier. Works just as well and cheaper!!

I would look at the board using a high powered magnifying glass to see if there was any signs of broken stubs of wires sticking out of any solder joints. Also look for solder joints that have no other possible routes, (dead ends) that do not have any other connections running from them. Like a resistor that has a copper path on one end and nothing running from the other end. Or it could be a ground wire if no other spot is found.

which model, do you hear arcing or snapping sounds when it's running? Check wires that run along the inside front of the cell, loose, sagging or broken wires will cause this.

it should have a prefilter already on it. they have a screen looking filter that goes on the front of the cell. If you don't have one you need to get one. You should also have a charcoal filter on the back side of the cell, if not then you'll need to get one of those also, the charcoal is for odors and not for filtering dust. Putting any other type of filter in front of the cell will just be turning this into a filter type cleaner and will be defeating the purpose of the reusable Trueman cell. You may as well just buy a different cleaner if you don't mind buying new filters instead of cleaning the cell. I would recommend cleaning the cell every 2 weeks to keep it working properly. This will also keep it from snapping, if yours is snapping it's already too dirty and needs to be cleaned, if it's snapping right after it's cleaned then you have a plate that is arcing in the Trueman Cell, I have posted a fix for the ProSheild Models to stop the cell plates from arcing.

I had one of these with the same exact problem, does your cell require some extra effort to push it into position? If it does it has the same problem as mine, after much examination I found the cell was getting squeezed on the sides near the back of the cell holding area. when the cell is in place it was getting compressed slight and the back edge of the plates were buckling just slightly enough to move the plates closer together, maybe 1/32" is all it takes to get them close enough to create an arc or short. I jammed something in the area where the switch is and left the front cover off and also removed the front screen, then I turned off the lights and started the unit and saw that there were sparks along the back edge of the plates. I removed the cell and saw no reason for the arcing but once I put the cell back in place I looked with a light shining inside the cell and noticed that there was a slight buckling of the plates and I filed off the plastic cell plate holder assembly on both sides of the the trueman cell. I eventually used a grinder to remove the extra material, I took off quite a bit of material before it fit without binding. It was working without any problems once I did this fix. I would bet everything that you have the same exact problem, I think they made the mold incorrectly for these units and won't acknowledge the problems. Should have been a complete recall. It's an easy fix once you know what the problem is.
