you havent really provided enough information but I can tell you all dvd players cannot read all types of dvd disks and the most common zone i have found they cannot read is 2. but as i said they are others, depending on the name brand. you have to know that home burned dvd's are the most common to not work in zone 2.

did you have a power surge or anything that could short it out. can you use a multimeter, can you test the unit your self. if so test the voltage through the power board. and through the fuse it might have blown. its all on the board that the plug in goes to when you open the case if its that new dlont do this take it back you will void the warrenty if you tamper with it.

I have found several of these that have had that problem and the ones i repaired had the same problem the power had failed to the laser eye. it was a different fix for each but that was the basic answer you can take it apart if its not under warrenty and look at the power board look for burnt resistors they turn black, or darker brown spots on the board. one did have the motor that controlled the eye bad the eye would not move.

if it does nothing when you push the standby button to make it play the most common problem is the power standby sw is bad. do you know how to use a miltimeter if so test the voltage through the swithc when you press the button.

do you see the laser light come on when the disk spins if not it has probably lost power or failed, if so sometimes the laser head gets moved to close to the drive mechanism and the motor cant pull it out. i have found several of these that had this problem.

you have a problem with the latch in the lid check and see if its dirty, do this by moving it with your finger if it moves but dont come back on its own then you just need to clean it. if its free mmoving then you will need to inspect the rest of the attaching hardware you could have a broken hinge or something like that.

if you dont have the audio video imputs RCA jacks on your TV, you can hook it up through a RF MODULATOR you can hook up to any tv this way. they come with instructions as well as the magnavox also shows how to hook one up.

Just got a coby dvd-207 for free due to this problem, fix takes about 5 minutes.

Tools needed:
1 small philips screwdriver
1 toothpick
1 bottle of rid-ox, deoxit, or similar contact cleaner and restorer

Steps:
1) remove the two rubber feet on bottom of case that have arrows pointing at them
2) remove 6 screws that have arrows pointing at them
3) carefully open case, there are wires connecting both halves, leave them connected
4) press open button, so that the disc receptacle is open
5) look for a gear on the inside near the back of the case that is connected to the dvd door, there should be a cheap reed switch mounted near it
6) clean the cheap reed switch with a toothpick dipped in rid-ox/deoxit/etc
7) re-assemble, plug it in, and watch movies for another few months until the reed switch decides to stop working again

The next time it goes out, i am just going to cut the two wires to the switch and either cross them over or install a mini-toggle switch on the side of the case..

Have you already removed the battery? There will be information on it telling you which battery to use as a replacement. As a general rule I would suggest you Don't start taking things apart if you are not sure what you are doing! You could cause more problems than you're trying to fix. Ask at your local TV repair shops and even some of the computer repairers. They may be able to help you. You would have to ask them directly if they have one in stock but commonly if it isn't a commonly used battery they will have to order one in for you. If you have the battery details you might be able to get one online.
