try going into your control panel and click on the display settings and see if you can reset from there.

Unfortunately, in my past experience this particular model it seems to have a very bad habit of hard drive failure on a regular basis. The particular samsung hard drives used in it are horrible and so is samsung support. You don't say weather or not you can boot from the CD/DVD drive with a live cd in it, but you should try getting one and trying it out. Get a copy of Hiren's boot cd from here:http://www.hirensbootcd.org/files/Hirens.BootCD.15.1.zipExtract the iso and burn it to a CD, then put the CD in your CD/DVD drive and boot from it. Use some of the Hard Drive 'diagnostics on the CD to determine if the Hard Drive is Dead Like I think it probably is. Then Contact Samsung support from this page:http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/NP-R530-JA02USKeep after them until they address the problem to your satisfaction. This is a VERY common problem with this particular model so give them an earful!

If your power supply checks out, then the most likely problem is the DC jack in the computer because it is attached to the motherboard and breaks away overtime causing intermittent to no power. But first! sub out the ram one stick at a time to make sure it is not a memory issue, failing that! the next step is take apart the laptop so you can access the motherboard, flip over and carefully check connections under the plug, now if you are handy with a soldering iron resolder all points. If after this and still no result it is time to consider a new computer.

You may have a hardware error - hard disk may be going bad.

Run your computer's diagnostics by pressing continually pressing F12 (it's possible for your system that another function key loads the diagnostics) upon boot and choose diagnostics. Let it run but pay particular attention to the hard drive diagnostic. If you get an error, your hard drive is probably going bad and would need to be replaced.

If not a hardware error, it's possible that there is a system file problem. Boot your system again, but this time press F8 to access System Restore. Choose a date when your system worked OK and follow the process.
