Seagate 500GB FreeAgent GoFlex Hard Drive Questions & Answers
My seagate freeagent go isnt working
Most likely there is a serious issue with your drive. The USB bridge is likely still communicating with your computer, thus why you see the device under USB media, however, it appears not to be receiving any information from the drive itself and that is why it is not showing under device manager. Would highly recommend to send to a data recovery service provider if the data is critical. There is a small chance that if you remove the internal drive from your enclosure and remove the USB bridge, connect the drive directly via SATA, it may be accessible. This will void any warranty you may have left on the device. Good luck.
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. Code 43
This message pops up in when i plug in my SeaGate Free Agent GoFlex hard disk.
Try this as a possible fix.
This trick can quickly fix many mysterious hardware failures The other thing I've heard of happening is a few of the USB 3.0 ports having problems with USB 2.0 equipment. I know it should be back compatible, but Windows can have problems. Try another USB port to see if that helps.Does the SeaGate cable have 1 or 2 connections to the computer? Unfortunately, most external hard drives need to connect to 2 USB ports to get enough power.I just looked up this problem on Seagate's website, and they pretty much come up with the same answers. Uninstall and re-install the USB drivers with the SeaGate connected. Or use other USB ports. The other suggestions they have don't make sense, if you can't talk to the thing, how do you run Seatools or checkdisk?Fixya doesn't allow me to put in another link at this point, so you'll have to copy and drop this into your address bar.http://knowledge.seagate.com/ka030000000tmkPAAQHere's another write-up on fixing the code 43, I wouldn't do number 6.Update BIOS though, USB is working fine with everything else, it's NOT the BIOS that's having a problem.http://pcsupport.about.com/od/errorc/a/code-43-error.htm
What does it mean to format a usb key?
All the data will be removed, and your external hard drive will be empty and ready for use. It happens a lot when you switch between a Mac and Windows, or your hard drive is new.
Format
A defective hard drive cannot always be successfully formatted. You may want to replace it.
My seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external hard drive
Bad news.If a hard drive makes a clicking noise, it's most likely lost forever.I have been able to rescue files from a dying hard drive which refused to cooperate with Windows (however it didn't make weird noises). I just plugged it into an Ubuntu computer and managed to copy a portion of the files with a command line tool called rsync. About one third of the files were corrupted but the rest of them were ok. The copying took several hours to complete. The drive had a significant pile of bad sectors, so that's why...Another (rather difficult) rescue tool would have been ddrescue. Using it would probably take an entire day or so. As long as the hard drive communicates with a linux computer in any way, tools like rsync or ddrescue could be used. However, if a hard drive has reached a point where it makes some extra noises, it's probably way beyond any point of reasonable recovery. Assuming it does not communicate with any computer, be it windows or gnu/linux, fixing your drive could require some extra knowledge, hardware or money. There are companies who are willing to fix that hard drive for an outrageous sum. Before even considering commercial data rescue options, you need to as yourself: "Is my data really worth that much?" If you are working on an important project and years of work is on that drive and there are no backups anywhere, letting a company take care of it could be your cup of tea after all.
Unusable recovered photos
You probably recovered the thumbnails of the picture, as Windows often does that to speed up picture loading. Look for other picture files.
